I recently lost due to a stroke my 13 year old collie, I still have a GSD and a westie, GSD is getting on a bit now and was very poorly a few months ago and we didnt think she would make it but she did thank god. I have owned GSDs for over 20 years and cant imagine life with out one, the one I have at the moment is a beautiful big bear, very loving and great with kids, trouble is that she has never liked other dogs, so when out for walks i have always had to walk away from other dogs, she was always well behaved as a puppy but was attacked by 2 labs and thats where it all started. I would like a gsd puppy later on in the year but how can i be certain that it will get on with other dogs, I dont want to spend more years having to go for walks on my own, I have read all the puppies for sale and they all say great temperments but how can I be sure. I have seen some lovely gsds on cd so do I just ring the breeders and get my name on their list. I have done puppy training with all my dogs and use to do agility. any advice please.

hi my babies are always introduced to my own gang at a young age, so are used to other dogs around them. i would strongly recommend taking any new pup to sociliation/ ring craft classes as soon as it has had its last jab, i also take mine to shops and stand near the doors so they get used to people coming up to them.  I have 9 GSDs and it seems to have worked with them.  Good luck

Hi,I have taken mine in a back pack (but on my front) to markets & car boot sales before their vac's are finished ,to see lots of new sights & people. They are not allowed to meet dogs until vac's are completed, but once done they are walked & socialised ,taken to training classes , some vets these days have pet meet pet puppy classes which gets pup used to going to vets for fun things not just injections etc. Most breeders will allow you to meet mum & dad before you get pup so you should be able to judge temperment, dont buy if not allowed to view parents for whatever reason. good luck hope you get a sound & happy pup.Good breeding -good socialiasion (rubbish spelling) = a very happy pup & owner. (I also have GSD'S )
