I currently own a very large male dobermann. I love the dobermann look but the size is a little overwhelming. I have recently become interested in the minature version and would like to know if the two breeeds would mix well and if there are any breeders in the south wales england area.

You could go medium, and have a German Pincher.

Min Pins are spunky little mites, and you may find they provoke the larger dog, who could hurt them. this is always a risk with owning dogs of very disparate size.

The German Pincher is a rare breed, they are Black and Tan or Red usually.

Min Pins were also around before the Louis Doberman type. ;) :D Manchester Terrier also has the same resemblence, but it's sturdier and a terrier.

I have a friend that keeps IG's with Rotties, but I would not advice keeping dogs with such a difference in size. Medum size would be best and one of the pointer breeds may be what you are looking for. Within the working group the Dobermann does not have anything that looks even remotely like it. So if it is the working temperament you like rather than looks I cant help. If you have not found what you want before March, then try to go to Crufts Discovere Dogs, and see what takes you fancy. Even a female Dobe is generally quite a bit smaller than the males - in size if not spirit!

the BEAUCERON , recently imported could be mistaken for a dobermanm although theyre also born in harlequin so theyd look different from the black and tan version, theyre meant to be a good working dog, competing in working trials

Hi, I have Dobes, and recently lost my elderly Min Pin. There are a few Dobe breeders that also breed and show Min Pins they are quite tough little characters, but you woul dhave to be careful. Min Pins tend not to realise how small they are and it would probably want to be the boss.

My Min Pin was from the 'Torilea' Kennel who are in Wales, and she was brilliant, and we only lost her recently to old age.

Hi,
Just thought I'd join in as I have a male dobe and short time after I got him, I was introduced to a Min Pin who I thought was absolutely gorgeous!! Fantastic little characters aren 't they! I searched long and hard to find a local breeder, just to talk about characters and suitability, but got absolutely nowhere as there was no one local to Wiltshire who bred them. (That I could find anyway)

I'm certain my beagle would love something smaller (with less teeth and smaller paws) to play with, especially as he gets on with everything and everyone. And if the dobe and Min Pin couldn't get on then I could keep the Pin on my side of the dog gate. ( Just as an aside, wouldn't it be great if you could 'borrow' a dog for a week or two just to see if it all works out?! Then hand them back if it didn't?!! Once you've invested hundreds of pounds in a pup or a dog, I always feel it's a bit late and irresponsible to try and hand it back if it all goes wrong - just my humble opinion!)

Roxi: do you have a contact number or e-mail address for the 'Torilea' kennels? When I researched the breed a while ago, the nearest breeders were up north somewhere, so I'd love to have a chat with them to see what their thoughts are.

Good luck with your search and if you do get one, can I borrow it please???!!!

Got it! Thanks very much, I've e-mailed them already for more info. That link was to a Shar-Pei website though - I was most confused and thought I'd got the wrong breed name!

Oh I see - I had to quickly go off and look at Min Pin websites just to make sure I hadn't gone doo-lally!

Don't Shar-Pei's get their food stuck in all those wrinkles??!! They could tuck a little treat in a wrinkly fold and have a midnight snack!
