hi everyone,i have a beautiful bitch called millie who we love to bits, i mated her on the 29th october which made her due date the 31/12/10,however she has had no signs wotsoever of going into labour, she hasnt lost her mucus plug, she isnt nesting and her milk hasnt come in,should i be worried yet? thanks

are you 100% sure shes in whelp? did you get her scanned? im not to sure how long this breed can go over but to be honist ive never had a girl go over even with small litter, if it was me id go and get her checked over by the vet just to make sure everythings ok ,
but when she was mated did you progestrone tes her? just that the sperm can live 5plus days before eggs are fertalized so if she hadnt ovulated when she was mated this could be why she seems to be late.

When were scans? They can absorb up till 35 days, so (i believe) not much point scanning before then.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.01.11 22:42 UTC
They can absorb later than that up to 6 weeks I beleive

My understanding - based on experience of other species that also reabsorb - is that they can do so right up until the skeleton is fully formed, and starts to harden. After that they would have to abort.
I'm not sure at what stage of gestation that occurs in the dog.

so sorry to hear this has happened , really feel for you - can't imagine how disapointed you must be xxx

My breeder had one absorb just before whelping; it was a singlton if that makes any difference.

Scan confirmed there one week before, then nothing, not even labour.  I'd felt the pup move (unless that was the absorbtion, which would be one hell of a coincidence).

Glad you're feeling a little better now.  It heartbreaking, especially when so close. xx
