Hi, I mentioned in a reply to someone elses post some time ago that both my 11 month old girls microchips have moved from the back of their necks to their chest. Now one of the has moved to her leg, should I be worried? if it work its way down to her elbow could this be a problem?

If you have already used it for Pet Passport etc I would get it removed and re-inserted otherwise get it removed and a new one fitted.

I would certainly be asking the Vet who fitted it and/or the company that made it to pay for it to be done.

I too have had a chip move from the back of the neck to the elbow, asked my vet about it and the offered to replace it free of charge and voiced the opinion that the younger the dog was chipped the more chance of it migrating - not a view held by others but that is what their records show.

ok thanks, it was done before I picked them up, but will speak to my vet about removal. My vet wasn't concerned when it had moved to her chest but now that it is in her upper arm I will take her back. Have only had to use it "officially" for her hearing certificate, might have to speak to the vet that did the test as any new chip wouldn't match numbers with her certificate.

Interesting.....Yes they were done quite young, but that is so correct hearing result is with the correct pup and they usually have the hearing test done at 5/6 weeks old.
Did it leave a mark where your dog had it removed? was it under GA? Did you have a new one put in and has it stayed in place?

I'de be concerned thought that this wasn't supposed to happen anymore??

I know one of my girls has gone missing but she was done years ago.

One of mine has their chip at the top of their leg - in the muscular shoulder area there.  Our vet isn't concerned.  There is a place in the Pet Passport to write notes about the location of the chip and we have updated it there.  Our vet isn't concerned, as long as the chip is still working.  Both ours were chipped at 12 wks.

I have left it where it is, it seems that rescue people do not look for them anyway just a cursory wave and mark it as no chip.

I know that if she were to go missing (touching wood/head just in case) then she would probably be without her collar as they don't wear them at home usually but if the vet says its ok to leave the microchip roaming then I might have engraved on her disk "MY MICROCHIP IS IN MY RIGHT LEG" just to cover that possibility.
If she wasn't short haired and muscular, I maybe wouldn't even have noticed. Although I am pretty hands on so notice every little lump or bump.
