Hi,
We went for a walk this this morning to a place we have not been too before. Its a well known dog walking place, a few fields with a couple of ditches. Had a fantastic time, the springer was in and out of the ditches, the staffie only went in to his paws. About 2 hours after being home the springer has started acting strangely, its like all her 4 paws are irritating her, we have given her a bath and used antibacterial shampoo and washed her paws thoroughly but she is no better, she keeps scratching/scooting her back paws, she won't stay still and keeps jumping about as if she is irritated. The staffie has no irritation. Just wondering if anyone has any advice they can give to us for the our poor springer please.
Thanks

Have you checked between her toes to make sure she doesn't have a grass seed stuck in her?
Hiya,
Yes we have washed inbetween all her paws very thoroughly front and back and there was nothing there. Really strange thats its all 4 of her paws?
Thanks

It does sound as if she has walked in something she is having a reaction to, if you have original Piriton in the first aid kit I would give her one and see what happens, if it helps then a call to the vet who may well suggest you going in for an injection. On the other hand if it does not help I would still be phoning the vet.

May not be related but I learnt the other day that irritation in the paws can mean a problem elsewhere. Has the dog eaten anything recently? Displaying any other signs?

All the salt on the roads these days are driving my dog crazy. She has refused to walk any further a couple of times and I have to make sure I wash her feet as soon as we get home or she would chew them off!

try hibiscrub diluted in water and dip her feet in for a few minutes dry them off completely then dab on 100% aloa vera gel which is completely natural which you can use 3-4 times a day . I would also suggest piriton but ask your vet for dosage as it will depend on her weight.
If symptoms persist a vet visit may be required.
Thank you for all the advice. We called the vets last night and arranged to take her in when she then decided to go lay on her bed, we left her 5 minutes and then got her up and she seemed fine so we gave her some dinner, cancelled the vets and she slept all evening, no more paw problems. It was almost as if she knew she was going to be taken to the 'vets'. We kept an eye on her all last night and all today and she is fine now, no more problems. Good to know about piriton, we have also heard aloe vera oil or cider vinegar would help. Thanks

When my dogs have acted like this in the past, it has turned out that they had been treading on wet stinging nettles. Unlikely that the nettles have raised their heads in January, but possible. The dogs always stopped going crazy in a couple of hours. It sounds as though your dogs did the same.
