My pups (large breed) now 6 weeks old, were weaned onto this food. I am following the feeding guide, in fact they are getting a bit more, but they're ribby pups and not as chunky as I would expect or like. They have been wormed twice.  I am in a quandry whether to change completely or add a bit of meat/nature diet but dont want to overdo it and alter the balance - I am wary of mucking around with pups food because of their digestion and development.

Any thoughts/ideas please?

I weaned my last Chi litter on the Fish4Dogs small bite puppy.  I did, however, give nature diet puppy all the way through.  I've never had tummy upsets on it either.

At 6 weeks I like mine to be a little on the chubby side, I always believe it gives them something to fall back on if they're not well.

At 6 weeks mine were given the meat 5 times a day, and the dry food was left for them to take ad lib.

I don't see that you have anything to lose by giving it a go.  Your pups will be a whole lot bigger than mine.  :-)

Never use a feeding guide - I give my pups enough so there is always a little left for mum to clear up so you know pups are having enough to eat.  I also prefer my pups to be on the chunky side - never had a ribby pup and don't want any either.

I also give a variety of foods - to check they can tolerate almost anything - as a lot of owners want to go back to their tried and trusted foods as soon as pup leaves however much you advise them not to.

I never go by the recommendations but feed pups to appetite.  Mum finishes anything left, so there is always a little left over each meal.

If pups are getting all they want with 4 meals a day and they are not loose and are still ribby then I would look at changing.

I used F4D for weaning my last litter. I did feed much more than the feeding guide though and was very impressed with the results , not a single tummy upset, great bone on the pups and a very contented litter.

I have one of wirelincs pups and can confirm this as a miracle food!  Well maybe not quite, but I was certainly impressed by this litters development.  Once at home it was clear that that my boy loves this stuff and it really helped him 'last' between meals.  Some pups get hungry again quite quickly but not this one.  He very soon slept through the night (much much much faster than a previous pup!) and didn't wake up completely starving :)

Thanks for all the replies. I definately have no complaints about the quality of the food and have now added some Nature Diet puppy to it - and this week the pups have picked up weight wise, I'm just used to seeing younger pups with more body on them. Their poos have been firm all the time. As previousy said, the feeding guide is just that and if I use it again I will up the quantities from the start.

I can confirm that what dab has said is true. A friend has a litter mate boy from Wirelincs and he is a stunner!! Big boy too :-).. He doesn't live far from us if you want to meet the boy.
