i have had a young retriever for five weeks now.He is one year old i cannot to go to the toilet properly as it seems to me that he is always got the runs.it is not drastic but when i take him out for walks it"S a waste of time taking a bag with me he is too loose.i feed him on cappie original as that was what the breeder had been feeding him .i took him to the vet to let the vet see him plus to register him with my local vet.he reccommended that i give him a mineral supplement of two tablets a day. could anyone give some advice on the toilet problem
many thanks

No mineral supplement will make a dog's toilet firm.

It could be diet enduced. You would be better trying him on something light like rice & chicken (Or turkey if you have loads left) for a few days to see if this binds him up. I have found Organic Natural Bio Yoghurt (A big dollop) once a day is good too.

Avoiding foods with wheat/maize added is sometimes helpful too.

Hi Stacey,

The owners of Curtis's [$ Mia's sire give their dogs a spoonful of yoghurt each day just to maintain the guts healthy flora (A bit like us taking one of the "gut health drinks" advertised on the telly (Like the one with that annoying little girl!) ])

Hi JM,

Just picked up on your note.
We have a Golden Retriever - five months old now. When we first had him he had constant runs/blood, etc. We tried him on all sorts and it wasn't until we put him on a raw food diet that the runs stopped practically overnight. We started him on raw chickenand went on from there. He has lots of chicken wings/RMB's so I gues he's almost BARF fed.....may be worth a go.
