how all ive not been on here for a while been busy with the new arrivals......You probably know from my previous posts as there has been a few lol
My large breed bitch was due 1st dec from her 1st mating. We couldnt see anything on scans and she had been poorly so thought she had lost the litter if she took.
The vet told me to cut out everything and just give her dried food to try and sort her tummy probs along with the zantac, she started to perk up, eating properly and her tummy rumbles have calmed down. Breeders on here said get an xray to be 100% which was my next course of action but being so far over her due date and nothing on the scans i was starting to sway with the vet that it was just a phantom not wanting to have to sedate her. However on the 11/12 Sat nite she was unsettled wanting to wee alot, Sunday morning we went to go for our walk and she didnt want to go but was eating fine etc I rang the vet and said i wanted her looked at. He agreed to meet me at the practice, again told me no way was she pregnant and he would book me in monday to have tests done on her gut......thank god i stood my ground and insisted on an xray, thinking back to what you guys had said on here.
The vet called me about an hour later to say there where 3 pups,he done a c section expecting them to be dead as she was 11 days over and all 3 were born alive and well :). The vet says i must have my dates wrong for the matings. But she has not been near any other dogs and was definately mated on 29/9 and 1/10. it even shows on the vets pc that she went in on 29/9 for her herpes vaccine in the morning and we went to the breeders that afternoon. Can't believe how far over she went, we couldnt see anythng on scans 5 in total and she still had no signs of starting labour......But I'm not complaining she is well and brillant with pups who are all thriving:) Biut t could quite easily have gone the other way I know in future listen to my gut and you guys.
Thank you all sooooo much for your advice and help on my previous posts and i'll continue to watch on here to see how others are doing with there expected litters or new litters
oh and i'm not advertising I'm keeping 1 bitch and the other 2 have already been reserved
Thanks once again
She is doing fab with them i think she feels like a part time mum as last time she had 11. The 1st 4 days was abit hairy after the section she obviously wasnt feeling her best and although she tried was very clumsy, we brought an indoor rabbit hutch (plastic top one) and kept the pups in there with a heater just bringing them out every hour for a feed and love. but she soon took over. It's so much eeasier having a small litter
