Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Can your bitch get preg through a crate?

My GSD is in heat and she is just reaching the mating stage .... i have a 7mth onld RC and he is just reaching sexual maturity ...today has been a nightmare they are both on edge and i have had to atch them like halwks ...lol they have not been able to get within a few feet of each other up to now so ...so far so good .

my concern is that my collie(the male) sleeps in a locked crate (the mesh kind) and my GSD is sleeping on her bed (no crate) so as not to restrict her from cleaning herself whilst in heat.... i was sat at my puter when i heard then moaning and groaning throught the door(they were put to bed when my partner went a few hours ago and the door shut behind them ) so i opened the door and caught them together ...not in a mating positions but they had obviously been up to something ...maybe just kissing but i dont know ! lol

so my question is this ...... Can my GSD not in crate get pregnant by the rough collie in the crate?..... i know it sounds daft but we humans manage some strange positions so why cant they???? lolololololol

anyway quick advise would be great ...and i am prepared to put GSD in the other crate if need be

Think he would be in big trouble if he did, gosh the eyes water even thinking about it. Jackie

To be more serious, it is hard on him to keep them in the same room, can you get him a Tardac jab, to take the edge of his desire. Still think, even then, keep them as far apart as pos. Jackie

I would seriously doubt it....but keeping them in the same room together is a bit tough isn't it? Can't you put them in seperate rooms, or even ask someone to look after the dog for a few days? he might injure himself trying!

Some years ago my mother had a yorkshire terrier Bitch aged 4, That x mas we looked after my aunts male yorkshire Terrier aged 12, My mothers bitch was in season, So she kept them in the kitchen, And gave them each equal time in the dog pen, We never see either dog next to the pen,Infact they ignored each other, But after five weeks, Her nipples were red, AAnd she was growing larger by the minuate, Needless to say she produced 8 healthy puppies, So as my vet told my mother WHERE THERES A WILL, THERES A WAY.

I also had a litter of 5 puppies and the sire and dam had been kept apart one in a cage and one out, at different times, so it would not surprise me if your bitch ended up having pups. Just be careful, can you not keep them in separate rooms? or are they "howling" for each other.!!!!

They are actualy being very well behaved now .... i am realy suprized at them to be totaly honest yes they were unsettled that day when i posted this question ...but that was the only day :D.....i think we will be fine..

well thanks for the info ...very interesting although i do have to ask how a male would be able to rear up when he is in a cage? there is no way i can physicaly see him being able to do so unless he folds in two....which i know he dont ...lol

anyway thanks again lots of love jo x x x x x x
