We have bad snow now in South Oxon.
When went out at 8am to get fuel it was small flakes...and clear roads..
Got back at 9.15am and it's snowing so hard my OH thought
it was fog! and roads that you couldn't see for snow.

Glad did Santa run last night and food shop yesterday afternoon.
Looks like I'll be on the bus on Monday if it's running!
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 18.12.10 10:09 UTC
Glad I missed Darwen's entry now.  No more snow overnight, surprised as there's a real snow sky here.
- By Lea Date 18.12.10 10:16 UTC
nothing still here. may have to do a long journey sometime this week across country so hopefully they will keep the main roads clear. :)
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 18.12.10 10:21 UTC
Its snowing here still, hasn't really stopped all morning just going from big flakes to little ones then back to big! :-)
Going to get my boots on soon and try to make it to the local shops. :-(

Snowed here in the midlands (B'ham and Dudley)last night then stopped but its been snowing since 7.30 and no sign of it stopping yet. The roads are awful and I've got to work tonight.I've had to park in the next street as its imposible to get off the car park now. Only just managed it this morning so no hope now.

Kind Regards

An icing sugar dusting yesterday, but today I've had 4 inches fall just in the past hour!! I'm in a total white-out blizzard at the moment here in Sevenoaks KENT :-D
Glad we did all our shopping yesterday in anticpation and have no plans other than to make a start on my (at present) Tate Modern tree and make some serious headway into this huge pot of Mulled wine I have on the stove!!
Cin, Cin! :-D

Snap!!

I am really dreading tonight. The main roads are really bad and the side roads are no go area's. Looks like I have a lot of walking to do to get to all my calls.

Lots in Whitstable too. My daughter has just rang to say her train has stopped at a station 30 miles away and there are no more trains or buses running so no idea how she will get home at the moment.
- By tooolz Date 18.12.10 15:30 UTC
Filthy sleety slush here on the south coast.
It will freeze overnight and will be lethal.
- By pat [gb] Date 18.12.10 16:40 UTC
Heavy snow in Essex about 4" so far, looks very pretty but roads are bad, family had to abandon car in rail station (due to inability to get the car up any hill everything stuck) and train home. Dig it out in the morning, hopefully it will still be there in one piece and not left for an opportunist to have their pickings!!
- By Lacy Date 18.12.10 16:44 UTC
No snow last evening in west Wight, but this morning bright blue sky and about four inches. It has been melting all day and like tooolz said filthy slush which will be lethal come morning.
- By huskypup [gb] Date 18.12.10 16:54 UTC
Yup I can vouch for heavy snow in Essex, not stopped since approx 12:30, luckily we'd just got back from Tesco so don't need to go out again this weekend other than walkies.  Sky still looks full of it but forecast to stop at 9pm.  Hmmmmm, we'll see.
- By LJS Date 18.12.10 17:57 UTC
We have getting on to a foot and a half now here. My wellies were full of snow over the top !
- By bilbobaggins [gb] Date 18.12.10 21:20 UTC
Loads in Berkshire today. About 6 inches. Had to do "some" Christmas shopping. Walked to town and back it was lovely. So clean and crisp!
- By MsTemeraire Date 18.12.10 21:27 UTC

> Walked to town and back it was lovely. So clean and crisp!

It was just glorious out this afternoon, blue sky, sun on the snow and yes - the air smelled lovely, so new. And it wasn't all that cold either, though walking through 14cm of snow across fields is hard work!!!! I ache tonight and I think I've broken my dog! LOL
- By gwen [gb] Date 18.12.10 22:05 UTC
We have just a pretty dusting here in Weardale, but the temperature was down to -8 a couple of hours ago, and I think will be even lower now.  Forecast is for overnight snow, fingers crossed not too bad as we have to go over to the coast tomorrow for a show.
- By Gemini05 Date 18.12.10 22:10 UTC
had great fun in snow today! Bmd sledge races! The dogs loved it, and the kids! My springer x ended up with huge snowballs attached to her feathering and chest, slowed her right down bless her! Managed to remove them. Still waiting for a parcel with christmas presents inside, hoping it arrives before christmas eve!
- By MsTemeraire Date 18.12.10 22:23 UTC

> My springer x ended up with huge snowballs attached to her feathering and chest, slowed her right down bless her!

Lol yes... my lad had icicles attached to his mane and was growing his own snowballs on his feathering! Took ages for them to thaw when we got in - banned to his bed, he sat and carefully chewed them all off.... and ate them.

In the town centre and along the coast it did. As I went home and entered the outskirts of the city it was still snowy and where I am it was a few inches deep..

Hopefully this is it for us down here now, i'm ready for the summer :-)>

We had 7 ins yesterday and our cul-de-sac was not passable to cars. No-one moved their cars yesterday. What I thought was fantastic though is that everyone that needed to shop walked. So many people walking into the village and even better was that we all spoke to each other, something with cars prevent us from doing. Today we still have so much snow that the cars are struggling so all the neighbours came out and have cleared the snow. It was a wonderful experience everyone working together.

Fed up - our lane is closed again - I doubt we will get a refuse collection for weeks now with the bank holidays.  Last time it snowed it was nearly 3 weeks until they came and then it was because we kept phoning up to nag them.  I don't fancy walking to get my turkey!  It is so annoying because the traffic is running freely on the main road and I am looking at the traffic queueing to get into Tesco's and the shopping centre from here.  One of them could even be you Peanuts!
I just wish there was more of a community spirit round here - just a few people trying to get cars out today with one or two shovellers to help. If only yesterday everyone got along and cleared it while it was still unfrozen then the access to the main road would be better.  Son and family supposed to be travelling to Holland on Thursday - hate this weather.
- By Boxacrazy [gb] Date 19.12.10 19:13 UTC
Wish there was more community spirit here in our road too.
In the past I've dug out the little s bend bit on an incline that comes into our road
(woman with asthma)
whilst some male postie and his wife that live in the first bit of our road
watched with no offer of help..and then when I'd finished he walked down the
road and drove his royal mail van into our road :(

We brushed the snow from some parts of our road and pavement this morning when it was powder like
so hopefully we will get out tomorrow - the estate roads aren't very nice compacted snow/ice but the main
roads aren't too bad well not this afternoon they weren't..
Just seen weather report and more snow expected later this week :(

Mine too! Batteries are definatly flat any how ;-)

Tell me about it :-(

Its just started up again here and its forecast to go all day now... Its the grainy stuff which is settling already. I have things to do, things which need to be done, so I may end up being snowed out of my home...
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 20.12.10 08:11 UTC
We had freezing fog here last night but no snow.  Really, really cold this morning brrrrr.  I HATE this weather!
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 20.12.10 11:19 UTC
Hardly anything around Bury St Edmunds, just half an inch if that. Bitterly cold though!
- By Merlot [no] Date 20.12.10 12:18 UTC
We have had a fair bit in Yeovil this morning...with a warning of more to come, and I have to get to work for 2.30 and home at 10pm....not the best prospect, and I have the sniffles too. Even the girlies were a bit put out at walking directly into a blizzard this morning...they looked like polar bears...

Snowing off and on and laying in Winchester, Hampshire. Due to drive to Kent thursday so hoping I can get there and then it can snow for as long as it wants.
Next door neighbours with two year old have been up and down to Heathrow twice and the car was back again this morning, heading home to Italy for Christmas with the grandparents, or not - such a shame.

Battering down with rain down here on the south coast! Swap ya!
- By ceejay Date 20.12.10 15:25 UTC
You want to see the icicles hanging from my roof - they must be 3 foot long and I am getting very worried about all that weight of snow and ice on my guttering.  I can't remember seeing anything like this before - only in pictures!

I'll swap ya!  I can drive in rain. :(
- By ceejay Date 20.12.10 15:40 UTC
Same here - we walked to Tesco's this morning - crazy - queues at least half hour long - stretching right down the aisles.  We paid for our few bits and bobs at the opticians and nipped out quick.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 20.12.10 16:16 UTC
Be careful ceejay, there was that poor young girl a few weeks ago who had her back seriously injured after some fell off her house.  I never actually heard whether she actually survived.

Freezing fog is engulfing Manchester at this minute.
- By Lea Date 20.12.10 17:01 UTC
Anyone know between Lincolnshire and Worcester??? We have to be in Worcester town centre without fail by 12 on Wednesday, not getting there is not an option.
So if anyone can let us know what the roads are like from Nottingham onwards it would be great thanks :)
Lea :) :)
No snow here just a Haw frost and White with it!!! -5 at the moment!!
- By ceejay Date 20.12.10 17:13 UTC
thanks Perrodeagua - I hope they don't fall off in chunks - it is a bit of a risk for the postman and other folks coming to the door too.
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 20.12.10 17:43 UTC
It's started snowing again around Gatwick. I'm really hacked off with this weather. The lanes around here are awful. Two men I spoke to at the weekend were complaining of people driving at '5 mph' - hello?
- By JeanSW Date 20.12.10 21:31 UTC

> Two men I spoke to at the weekend were complaining of people driving at '5 mph' - hello?

:-)  :-)

When I got to work this morning, I mentioned that the cars were bumper to bumper and going 2mph but at least people were being sensible.  And it didn't matter that it had taken 5 times as long to get to work.

Some smart ass young girl with a sports car said oh it's all those prats that hold me up!

I know I shouldn't smirk.  :-)  :-)  :-)

She went out lunchtime, skidded in our car park, and drove her car into a barrier.

We haven't had any post here in central Somerset for days.... though I have seen postmen at the local post office collecting, and UPS and Parcelforce vans managing to get through. I am on tenterhooks wondering if the things I've ordered on Ebay for Christmas will arrive in time, if at all! It didn't help that we had another inch or so of snow this morning.

Clarks Village is closed, due to staff not being able to get in.... not good at this time of year even though I rarely go there myself. However if the Ebay items don't arrive in time I might have to...... if it's open.....lol

One good thing - I got some Ice Grips for my boots and I have been on great long expeditions over the fields with doggy having loads of fun; sheet ice pavements no obstacle. I've had quite a few people asking me today what on earth I have on my boots and where can they get some.... The giveaway is walking into places like Boots and Tescos where I sound like Fred Astaire tap tap tapping on the floor!
- By WestCoast Date 20.12.10 22:14 UTC
MsTemeraire
I'm told by a Somerset Postie that we can go to the office and collect our own post, although the roads are too bad round here for me to take the car out and the pavements are just solid ice so I won't walk. :(
- By MsTemeraire Date 20.12.10 22:18 UTC

> I'm told by a Somerset Postie that we can go to the office and collect our own post

Ahhh is that so? Would that apply to Street do ya think? Our main post office is now WH Smiths...
- By WestCoast Date 20.12.10 22:27 UTC
I need to get to the office where I collect parcels that they haven't delivered.  Do you have somewhere similar?  I think it's the sorting office.
I can't even get there because the roads and pavements are just not worth risking. :(
- By ceejay Date 20.12.10 22:33 UTC
I have ice grips too but you have to be careful they don't pop off as you walk on uneven surfaces.  By the way if you are driving make sure you clean the snow off the roof - it is illegal to do so (just heard it on the news just now)
- By MsTemeraire Date 20.12.10 22:36 UTC

> I can't even get there because the roads and pavements are just not worth risking.

I can do roads & pavements cos I have them ice grips..... Intrepid R Us :)
But don't know where the nearest sorting office is - probably Shepton or Wells, and there are no buses running, lol. Only been back down here a few months and my elderly mum has no idea.
