My mum told me today that she would love to receive perfume for Christmas. I rarely wear perfume so really don't know where to start. The only clue she gave me is that she likes the 'musk' type ones. Any ideas please?

Obsession (Calvin Klein) is quite musky with no floral tones, but it's quite heavy. So if she's looking for subtle, this isn't the one for her.

Go to the Guerlain counter - musky perfumes galore :)

Ralph Lauren Romance is nice-not musky, but it's somewhere between light and heavy. I'm not a musky person-if you'd have said 'light and fresh' I could tell you a few! Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey is also lovely-distinctive, not fresh, but not musky, just somewhere it between. You'd have to sniff it to know what an earth i'm babbling on about!
Edited to say Calvin Klein Euphoria (the original one that's a purpley colour) is also v nice-much heavier than the two above.

Two old classics:
Youth Dew
Opium
both are somewhat heady. Unless 'musky' means something like the Body Shop's White Musk range?
Or Jovan?
I'm Opium or Beautiful by Estee Lauder. :)

CK Euphoria in edp Deep Night by Ghost give these a smell :-) Musty a must
My mum adores Opium, musky, as my mum also likes, but beware, its very expensive!!

Thank you all for your suggestions, gives me quite a few to explore. I knew I would get a good response from this forum :)

Oooh forgot one I've always liked - though I haven't smelled it in years - Le Must de Cartier - strong, spicy and musky.

Wasn't impressed with Jovan. And disappointed with Body Shop's White Musk, just too wishy washy for me. I will never understand why they stopped doing Japanese Musk Oil. It is the sexiest perfume I have ever worn.

Roxi and Adidas - for her, adrenalin perfume are really nice...
Opium is very strong, not really a daytime perfume, although it is my personal favourite, but someone bought me Beautiful, and that is one of the oldest, best selling perfumes apparently, and I really like it for every day use.I think perfume is an ageist thing, wrinkles like me stick with the traditional ones.Ofcourse at this time of year I guess Damp Dog is my usual scent, perhaps that why the kids buy me perfume every Christmas!!!

I normally wear Classique (Eau de Toilette) by Jean Paul Gaultier which is nice, not too heavy for the daytime either. I also like Rive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent for the evening.

I believe the Body Shop does a Musk too

I got my Anais Anais from Superdrugs last week, lot cheaper than most places. They had a huge display of perfumes on offer.

Our daughters bought me Dolce & Gabbana - Light Blue for my birthday recently, having always been a CK fan, found this a rather nice change.
