My TM Ben came to me about a year ago aged 6, he had thickened scaly skin on the sides of both elbows, I don't think they were pressure sores, there's no redness , one seems to have gone and the other one has improved, which I think is down to him being on a raw diet and the inclusion of Omega 3,6 &9 oil, does anyone know what they are ? and is there anything else I can do to help get rid of them ?.( I'm only guessing their not pressure sores, he's an indoor dog and I'd have thought his thick coat would have prevented sores )

Hard scaly skin from pressure, sudocrem is good.

Don't have any Sudocrem, I do have udder cream though so that might do until I get Sudocrem, thanks for the reply.

Udder cream will be fine :)  anything to soften the area. Does he sleep on a hard floor? If you can encourage him into a soft bed they won't come back.

He does sleep on hard floors some of the time, I've tried every sort of bed for him but he just refuses point blank to use them, the only one he showed any liking for was that matting stuff you get for gym's, but even that he'll ignore most off the time, I've tried putting it in the places he favours for resting but he just moves so he can lie on the hard floor again. I think he just get's too hot, especially in the winter when the heatings on, although we keep the radiator in the hall off so he has somewhere cold to lie.

Its usually the sign of a kennelled dog and theres not much you can do about it as the hair is missing and i've never known it to grow back and hide the elbows once the skin has gone hard.
If he prefers the floor to a dog bed then thats a good indication he's been kennelled or relegated to most of his life on hard floor.

Not always :) Two of my dogs who I have had since pups prefer to lie on tiled floors and will deliberately move bedding out of the way. That's dogs who are quite welcome to lounge on my bed, the sofa and who have constant access to lovely flumfy cushions :)

Occasionally it does. One of ours had a hard patch on one of his elbows after being paralysed for some time, vet told me he would have it for good, two months later it was 90% gone. Yes I can still see it, but I have to look for it.

I highly recommend Quistel, Cleared up my Husky a treat (In summer he won't lie on a soft bed for love nor money)

I know Ben's previous  owners quite well and he's never been kennelled, although I think he may have spent some of his time at the breeders in a kennel, in his old home they had a lot of marble flooring so I guess that would have the same effect.
Off to have a look for Quistel.

Huskygal, is it the coat spray, or did you use the whole grooming range ? trying to wash Ben would be worthy of a You Tube entry lol.

LOL at Stan, know what you mean, I felt awful at first, I've never had a dog that didn't enjoy a snuggy bed, but as you say, it's his choice, at the moment Ben's lying out in the garden in the snow ! he just loves the cold.

Hi Celli,
Everynow and then Quistel (on their site) do deals on bundles (getting a mix of spray, shampoo etc) so i usually take advantage of those. I find the Spray perfectly adequate on its own though. At present I'm using it on my Eurasier who incurred a tail injury a couple of months ago and has lost a section of her lovely plumey bushy tail but the Quistel is bringing it back much better hair growth now and the skin lost all it's 'scaliness' within the week :O)
Having the spray knocking about the house though is dead handy I find, and I much prefer it to methods such as dilute Hibiscrub (Much more gentle and just as effective)

Hope this helps! and looking forward to Ben's staring appearance on You Tube!! :-D
