Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 8 hours panting and shivering

HI all my girl has been digging panting and shivering since at least 2pm today she was digging last night and very restless.  I have just taken her out for the toilet but as soon as she had done a pee she ran straight back to the house and started crying when in her box.  Do you think she will go tonight? x

It depends on breed I think.  If it was one of my toy breeds, I would have suspected inertia by now, and would be at the veterinary hospital.

Hello, sounds like she is in the prepartory stages of labour which can last 24 hours, if you are concerned about your dog always go to your vets

Hi just went upstairs to loo and came down and she is wet and so is her bed I presume her waters have broke so hopefully this is a good sign.  No signs of straining yet.

Mine is the other post on here about a long labour.  My girl did the panting thing for more than a day but when her waters broke and she started pushing, everything went super fast and easy.  Good luck and try to remain calm(easier said than done!).

No, after her waters went till she had her first pup was only about 20 mins.  Could she have had a 'leaky wee'?  Our girl had quite a few of these during her pregnancy.  Not a flood like she had peed herself but just about half a cup full.  Also, her waters were more like thick, clear liquid rather than wet liquid(IYSWIM).  I hope you are not waiting long.

Hi all well we have 6 lovely healthy pups.  5 girls and 1 boy.  Our girl didnt start until 3pm so it was a long time from her waters breaking.  Unfortunately we lost the 1st puppy as it was born bum first and was so big it toolk her a long time to deliver it.  We were devastated but the next one "shot" out 5 minutes later.  Our girl was so tired she didnt even break the sac we had to do everything although she did clean pup when given to her.  I just wonder what would have happened if we were not by her side for the last 24 hours as I know a lot of people believe it is nature and dogs should be left to it.  We would have had a box of dead puppies if that had been the case.  Thank you all for your advice and support over the last few weeks and to all girls waiting to deliver I hope all goes well
