Topic Dog Boards / General / Peaceful Protest at Petworld Sun 12th Dec - 12 noon

Here we go again. This is the man who was selling sick, puppy farm puppies at Select Pets at Sundridge. He has a big new store and has recently got his license to sell puppies just in time for Christmas! We want to show him that we haven't forgotten about him. Lets show him and the people who live nearby that we meant what we said. We warned  his new neighbours that there would be robberies and he has had parrots stolen. We also warned them that there would be protests. He still has no planning permission for change of use and maybe pressure from the locals would make  the council do something about it.

The address is Petworld, Orpington Bypass, Badgers Mount, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN14 7AP

If previously a business address and the current building is portable and of a certain size then planning permission is not required.
However i've just looked at Google maps and the picture shows that it is a massive warehouse, so unless the building has changed he would need permission in this instance.

Thanks Sue. We know that he needs it and the council know that he needs it. He has applied but has not given the council the correct information to validate it. Last time I spoke to the enforcement dept they said that as it was better being a shop rather than a garage they would not bother to do anything about it. He knows and the council knows that if it was a valid planning application then there would be mass objection to it from all over the country!

Well the weather looks OK for tomorrow and I have made new signs for the protest. The local paper should be there so please come along if you can. It is very close to Jct 4 of the M25. This was the last article about him when he started up there.

I have been talking to the police again today and they have asked that we do not park on the verges. Obviously we will not be parking in the Petworld car park so anyone who would like details of where to park please pm or email me.

Well I was rather worried beforehand as I only knew of 2 of us definitely going but we ended up with 12! At least 4 of these were local residents who had seen it in the local paper. They are very concerned and will be talking to the council about his lack of planning. They also provided tea and coffee and the offer of a loo and parking for next time! A local rescue and animal welfare group also stopped to offer support at the next protest. The only thing that could have been slightly better was that the photographer from the local paper came when there were only 4 of us but great that he came and there will be an article next week. We had lots of hooting from passing cars and hardly anyone went into the shop during the 3 hours that we were there.

Excellent.  In some ways small frequent protests are probably good, as your not causing public order issues, but still getting points across, more frequently.

Maybe it is time to start protesting outside the Local Autjhority offices that are not implementing and policing the licencing of 'commercil breeding establishments'(puppy farms)

There was a protest last year at Carmarthen and there is talk of having another one there. These things all need organising by someone though and then it is not easy getting people to go to them. We hope to be at Petworld every month for as long as it takes, the same as there are monthly protests at Dogs4Us Leeds.

What about the Manchester branch of dogs 4US they are the original and were the biggest and sadly where most of our breed come from that are commercially sold.

Again it has been talked about but no-one has come forward to organise at it Manchester plus apparently it is not so easy there with the busy road. It was very different at Petworld to other places as we hardly talked to any one because of the set up there. The traffic did slow to read our signs though and lots of people hooted their support.
