Topic Dog Boards / Health / FN/PRAtesting in Cockers on KC ABS

Do you have to health screen to be on the KC ABS, there's a puppy farmer who is on it, but sure she does not health check/screen any of her 10 breeds!!! Someone has bought a Cocker from her, and she was told it was all health tested as shes on the ABS, but there's no record of it sire/dam being tested.

would I know this 'lady' if I rose a bit! if it is her you wil understand that bit!
But I dont think they have to be health tested to be a KC a b. would think this is not same 'lady' as she was in trouble last year re not having a license.

Yes, same lady, theres a surprise, according to the KC website, the sire/dam should be health tested for the PRA/FN, and microchipped, tattoo'd or DNA profile. Dont think she will even bother worming her dogs!

and her breeding of the crosses has problems. one of the two that a charity I know bought from her had shoulder problems.

I did see the add in the paper and wondered if it was her. she has to be stopped.

I went out to visit someone that had bought two pups of her. (she got a reduction for taking two!) Both pups (about 6/7 mths old) were in the same crate. the owner thought that this was alright as this was what she had saw when she bought them.....mum and litter in a cage gid enough for on lab size!

This here tells of all the health tests that have to be done if you are an ABS, breed by breed. The required ones MUST be done or the litter will not be registered. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/1100/abshealthreqs.pdf
For Cocker Spaniels the requirements are eye testing including gonioscopy, DNA testing for prcd-PRA and DNA testing for FN. Recommended is hip scoring.

From January 2011 ALL breeding stock owned by AB's must be Optigen pra, Antagene FN DNA tested, and Glaucoma tested, or the breeders will be not be able to register their litters, if they try they will be removed from the scheme.

AB's were given 6 months grace to get all breeding stock tested.

Sharon does this mean that all breeders under this scheme have to health test all dogs or only dogs being used? And does it only cover the tests which the KC mention? The only reason I ask that is in some breeds they health test for certain things via the breed clubs, but this is not a requirement under the KC..Bizarrely..

I was just referring to Cockers as this is my breed, the new rules were brought in in July 2010, and members of the AB's scheme have until January 2011 to get all their breeding stock DNA tested for pra and FN, the KC/BVA eye tests for pra and Glaucoma, although hip scoring is recommended it's not compulsory
