Hi guys,
just after some advice for a friend who's pups are now 6 weeks old. They have been weaned onto CSJ puppy but one of the pups is really compacted and is at the vets on a drip at the moment. The vet told her that the pups stools was very grit like even though she carefully prepares their food soaking it in water and mashing it up before the pups are fed. Now another pup is showing similar symtoms. Has anyone else experienced this? She wants to change to another food asap any recommendations and she is at her wits end. She has also been adding toplife puppy milk to their food.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
maybe the room is to hot for them? id maybe add alot more water to their food ,but if that dont work then change the food but do it over a week or they will end up with the runs ,hope your friends pups are ok soon xx
Not sure Jo..nightmare for my friend! Yes I will get her to do it gradually. xo

Odd that as my pups are the same age and I've had the exact opposite experience -total diarrhoea with CSJ so had to take them off it. I switched to Pedigree as I've reared several litters on it previously.
She has never fed CSJ before and this is her first litter raised on it. Obvioulsly the food doesn't agree with them or may just be a bad bag of food.

What is the mum fed on?
I've always fed the pups the same food as the mum as a base and then added other things, scrambled egg, yoghurt, scraped beef, grated cheese etc.
I've had pups do well on a mixture of Burns and JWB puppy food (mixed, I could then be sure that the new owners would be able to feed either if they couldn't get one of them) and also CSJ puppy food, but mum was eating the same as the pups ;)
Agree that some extra water may be needed, the food needs to be soaked to a mush.
Hope this helps

Funny you should say that but I tried my adults on CSJ as I had heard so many 'good' reviews on it, and they were the same, their poo's were so dry and crumbly even though they enjoyed the food, you couldn't even pick it up :-( We're back on RC now, one trial we won't be trying again.
Mum is fed on CSJ Liitle Champ puppy same as the pups and they have been doing fine up until now. She has been soaking the food well and adding toplife puppy milk as well. This is the first time she has also raised pups on CSJ after hearing such good reports but shes popping out this moring to get something else. She has one pup at the vets at the moment on a drip and another one in the whelping box who is displaying similar symtoms straining so he will probably be at the vets too shortly..nightmare for her! Feel so helpless too living soo far from her! What would you reccomend feeding the rest of the litter who are ok..she was thinking of putting them on nature diet puppy or Natures harvest puppy..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
ive used both of them and find it to be a very good food :) i use proplan active large breed puppy and add that food to it if pups not eatting much but my last litter had that for 2 meals and proplan with raw mince for 2 meals ,big fat chunkters they were :-) xx
Hi Jo, so Nature Diet and Natures Harvest is ok for weaning pups..great xo
