I was just wondering if an in whelp bitch ate loads and loads would the puppies be bigger in size than say a equivalent dog who ate normally? Therefore increasing the chance of a c section.

I was just wondering after something my vet said.

its best not to over feed to start with but from 6weeks i start to increase food bit by bit day by day i also change to puppy food when i start increase so by the time she is 7 weeks she is on full puppy food they do need to eat more then normal amount by the time pups are due mums dont really eat that much so i like to get has much has they will eat gives them a good start after having pups from 7 weeks on my girl eats what they want within reason lol

They do need more but not much more.

Mine are put on puppy food once pregnancy confirmed, and by the time they are due they are on half as much again as normal, so 300g instead of 200g.

Once pups are born they are fed as much as they like, as that is when they need it.

It is very bad for a bitch, especially in the small breeds to eat too much in pregnancy as a fat bitch is not a good whelping prospect.

I don't increase the food until 6 weeks in whelp and up it by 35g a week.

I put them on puppy food as soon as I know they are pregnanct but feed about the sme as their maintenence ration.

mine would eat for england the moment she conceived but however much she eats wont affect the size of the pups-- they wont be fat!
