I had my first run in with the pdsa today. I was taking my neighbours dog because she's housebound. To be honest it was an ok experience. The vets were really friendly but the receptionists were snotty.

What does everyone else think about the PDSA?

I have used the PDSA but it was with a private vet. I did get a snotty receptioniost that used to work at a PDSA hospital that looked down on me. But the other receptionists knew that if I could afford the treatment I would pay for it myself. I have no problems with the PDSA and when I have enough money I will start repaying for all the treatnent they have paid for over the years :)
The only thing I dont like is that they wont pay for pre op blood tests.
My old Rottie cross had a tumour in her stomach, and vet said about removing it. The crunch was if the pre op blood tests cam back fine.
I paid for them and they came back that her kidneys werent functioning amongst other things so she wouldnt survive the anasthetic. So they would have paid over £400 for the op, but not the £30 to say she couldnt have the op LOL Other than that they were great, no experiance of  the actual  PDSA hospital though.

It was many years ago now but my parents Rough Collie was referred to the RSPCA after they paid quite a lot of money for 3 weeks at the vet trying to find out why he was losing weight so quickly.  King was with them for half an hour and they advised my parents straight away that he had oesophageal cancer and wouldn't make it much longer so he was PTS.  They were really nice and so much better than the vet where they forked out so much money.

I had to use them once years ago and though they were fantastic...one of the charities i coninue to support.

Snotty vet receptionists ?? Don't even get me started on Dr's receptionists !!

I used to live about a mile from a large PDSA hospital.  When my adult daughter was temporarily unemployed and claiming benefit her collie was ill and they refused to treat her because my daughter could not produce a rent book, although she could provide proof that she was in receipt of unemployment benefit.  I have never since, and will never, support the PDSA.  (It ended up with me paying my own vet to treat the collie).  

we had a trip there last night with our boy ,our vets use them when its out of hours ,hes hurt himself jumping a high dog gate trying to get to 1 of our girls that is in season :( ...there were 2 receptionists on 1 said " are you paying :-0 in a snotty way and looked down on me it was late and i was only half dressed LOL I LOOKED A MESS but it was my boy i was worried about! once i looked her in the eye and siad yes we pay she was so different! i was gobsmaked!!! so she must think people on benifits are trash :( ....

From what I know of the PDSA (a friend is a Vets Now nurse in one of their hospitals) it's Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit only, so if your daughter had proof of either of those she would have been entitled. If you don't have the required documents you can get a form signed by them to send or take to the nearest Council offices to be stamped as proof. The PDSA also run schemes in conjunction with many local vets now in areas where there are no hospitals, same rules apply.
