if youd seen pups outside in the cold, badly looked after and unwanted (unable to sell by breeder, so cast out into garden and unloved). would you have any qualms about getting them out of there? whatever it took?

I would get them no matter what it took be it even paying, the pups come first and foremost.
Get them out and Id have one to look after no matter what.

get them out bless em

I would be direct and ask the owner if they wanted you to take them off their hands as it would be better rather than risk being accussed of theft if they are taken away by any other means. In the meantime call the dog warden to make a visit.

I agree, I wouldn't risk doing anything that you may end up with a criminal record for. I would contact the RSPCA (although I don't have a huge amount of faith in them) and the local dog warden. When they've both visited and the 'breeder' is on edge about them I'd offer to take the pups off their hands and find good homes for them.

In similar circumstances I knocked on the door and said " I understand you have a puppy for sale " The dollar signs appeared in her eyes, she grabbed the GR pup out of the garden ( shivering behind a dustbin in pouring rain and covered in mud ) and told me the price, ( not cheap ) I took the pup and left. I could not have slept at night knowing the pup was probably going to die in a horrible way in the cold garden 24/7. I reported her afterwards and the warden said they would keep an eye on her in the future. The pup turned out to be a very loving dog and worth every penny.

Sadly though paying them money may tempt them to do the same thing next time the mother's in season.

I wouldn't suggest paying any money just ask if you could take any money just offer to take them off their hands . If they don't bite then report them .

Very best of luck Sam

best of luck sam
if i lived closer i'd be coming to help
whatever it took?
Nope, wouldn't do anything illegal not worth it.
But wouldn't give a hoot about upsetting someone, or calling RSPCA. I wouldn't buy or 'take' the pups either as then the owners problem becomes your problem, stuck with pups that won't sell, albeit the pups would be better looked after, raising a litter is time consuming and expensive and buying them or paying for the litter to be put to sleep, teaches the 'breeder' nothing, as someone else took the fall.
There are thousands of ill treated dogs and pups, you have to leave it in the hands of those who get paid to do that job of protecting animals, that is the reason I give to all dog charities so that they can take care of what we can't.
Just read the post.
Hope you managed to get the pups out.

I have paid to get a pup away from a terrible situation. I got Shady at 5 weeks old from a scrap yard where her tail had been cut off with scissors and she was being kicked and thrown and hun upside down by her legs by children. No way would I leave her there another second to endure anymore.
