Just want to ask a question here ... I have a bitch who had a singleton pup ... She was very protective and it took a while to get her back to her normal behavior ... Well 3 weeks after pup leaving she started being horrid and unlike herself , we took her to vets and she was diagnosed with an infection and given antibiotic's ... she calmed for a week or two , but never returned to the dog we know ... Well she has now given birth to 2 pup's ... I am absolutely gobsmacked and dumbfounded ... (i have a male ) How can it work that she can be with pup so quick ???Her pup can only have been 9 to 10 weeks old when she was caught ..(i did not witness a mate or see my male show any interest in her )And do you think the antibiotics might have done the pup's any harm ?. Any theories on this would be appriciated ...Thanks

How often are her seasons normally? If her pup was 9/10 weeks old when she caught that would have been possibly 18/19 weeks since her last season, so around 5 months since her last which isn't unheard of after a litter.
You'll have to check with your vet regarding the anti-biotics, but I had a bitch stay on AB's all through her pregnancy because she bled from season to whelping, but all 7 pups were fine.....she was on Synulox.

She is normally 6/7 months between season .. she usually comes in just after her mum who has just finished her season ...She has been to vets and he says pup's are well and the antibiotics will have done them no harm ...Will i beable to register them as i did not witness the mate , but it must have been my male as she is never off lead when out ...
no even tho shes not off the lead you have to witness the mateing! or you could get them DNA tested once born? xx

I have just one more question , since i did not know she was having pup's and thought she was just trying to gain topdog status ..I did not increase her food or worm her from usual ... Should i be trying to build her up now that the pup's are here and can i worm her now or should i wait till pup's are 2 weeks before i do any worming ? I feel really guilty as we thought she was just being pushy and have not given her the same care i would have given her if i knew she was in pup ...
not sure about worming mum just yet because pups would need doing at the same time has she is cleaning them up she will still be infested by the pups so not to sure sorry, give her plenty of puppy foods with chicken and other well cooked meats that she enjoys ,and make sure she drinks plenty ,how many pups did she have ? sorry carnt remember if you put it in your post xx
I would worm mum when the pups are 2 weeks and are also being wormed otherwise you are just wasting your time. Give her high quality food and extra proteins etc. Hope mum and babies are doing ok.
