Hi
As you all know I am hand rearing a whippet pup, he is now 19days old and has still not opened his eyes. I have been bathing them every 3 hrs with warm water. His box has been moved to where there is a little more light because I wondered if the room was too dark for him.
I am starting to get worried he wont open them.
Has any one else had any pups whose eyes have not opened while late on or not at all?
Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved

BTW He is gaining weight nicely.

hi Dawn, i would not worry yet, his eyes will open any day now, some of my pups opened theres at 11 days and 2 didnt open them till day 19 and 20, so fingers crossed all is ok.

I would stop bathing the eyes unless there is infection or instructed to do so by a vet.The tissue around the eye is very delicate and you could inadvertenly open the eyes prematurely before they are ready to do so.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He has opened his eyes.
I feel a L O T better about t now.

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice and or assurance. It is my first hand reared litter.
Lets hope the next litter, if we have one, is easier than this :)

Hi Dawn,
Glad to hear that 'Rip Van Pup' has finally decided to take a look at the big new world.
Probably he was keeping his eyes wide shut because he liked all the warm cuddles, and didn't want them to stop.

Well at least he did manage to 'SEE' his first Christmas.
