Im after some advice. Where I live we have just been issued with a weatherwarning of snow. I really concerned now as my bitch is due tonight, althought there is no sign of labour yet im fretting a bit as where i live if we get snow I always end up snowed in and it is impossible and very dangerous to go out in a car.
Im concerned now as if GOD FORBID my girl has a problem I cant get her to the vets. I have spoken to my partner and he agreed I could take my girl to tioll after she has the pups. although this would be more convenitent Im wondering if I should just bare the brunt and hope for the best?. I dont want to stress my girl out, but where I am i cant get her to the vets and nothing can get to me at all! (everything stops by me from rubbish collection/post/bus)
please can I have as much advice as possiblke before the snow gets worse? Its only spitting out there at the mo
Why not try ringing your vets and just see if they can suggest anything useful, they might be able to provide you with a standby kit of emergencies that they can guide you in the use of over the phone or something?
Ive spoken to them and they said that they will advise me over the phone if theres any problems. Im just worried not that guidance isnt going to be enough! They ahve already sadi they refuse to even try to come near me as the roads here are trecherous!
Oh dear. The things we have to consider when mating a bitch ..... :(
I know I wish I had thought about this a bit better! :( I checked everything more than 2 but forgot about the weather, the one thing that everyday needs to be consideered and I forgot it! :(
Don't panic , your girl needs you to be calm and in control , there is no reason to think at this stage that anything will go wrong. There is no point getting yourself in a state over something that might not happen. Deep breaths . . . . .
Keep us posted

Do you have anyone who could come and be with you, maybe someone who has had a great deal of experience in whelping? I appreciate this will not help you if you needed to get out to the vet but I was thinking of someone who could reassure you as it's much nicer to have company, sometimes one person thinks more logically than another? ( especially whe it's not their girl involved!)
Anyway, you know what will happen, you will make loads of contingency plans and she'll sleep like an angel and deliver at another time :) Good Luck.
I have a relative who bred had a dog that had pups a long before I was born though So its a bit hit and miss Im hoping she will remeber enough to help if needed!
I dont have anyone else whop can help out as I was kinda relying on my vet assistance if anything goes wrong! I have watched several videos on whlp on youtube, some I found helpfull and others (like one where the woman pulled the placenta from her bitch,or had other dogs running round the whelping area) not so good,
Haha and she probablly will she doenst ever do to plan with anything bless her heart!

Try not to be too stressed. If she isn't showing signs of labour yet then she may only go from tomorrow onwards and you will have been stressed all over night and be in no state for when she does give birth. Try to keep calm for her and your own sake.
How did you get on last night?
Did she go into labour and did you manage?
Thankgod no but it did snow last night and Im completly snowed in! :( Im hoping to pursuade a few people from the street/surrounding area to chip in to buy some grit, Our street never gets gritted because its not a main road which means that were all stuck unless we go out on foot, but maybe we can all agree to buy some and after the kids in the street have had their fun scatter it! but gotta try and pursade them because I cant afford the grit myself but hopefully I can get a few people to help out and we can have a clear path to the main road so I can get my car out of the street if theres a problem
Is it too far to dig a track for a car and use cheap salt and/or Value cat litter? That's what we did here last year. Those who could dig did, and those who couldn't made hot soup and sandwiches. :)
I thought you were up a mountain!! :) :) :)
I cannot clear it alone, and only 1 person is willing to help. its about 1.2 miles to the main road! where I need to get!

Can you not get friends from abit further away to walk up and help you if you explain the situation.
What part of the country are you?
II have cleared some of the snow with help from a neighbour and 2 friends but no-one else seams bothered because its the weekend, its annoying because if it was sunday night theyd all be panicing about work. Oh well I going to buy out asdas smart price salt now (if its open ;
))
I sort of am in the mountins, Well on the side of one at least. Where I live is a small community, but theres a main road which runs into the town that a bus uses about 1.2 miles away so that gets gritted. Im off now to stock up on salt with anyluck I can get the majority of the snow off the road, I wanted to see how my car handled it but it was sliding all over and that was with the engine off and somoene puching it, and once I leave my street its up and down "hills" so im not risking that so time to walk to the bus stop!
Thankyou to everyone who offered their advice! Just to let you all know, my bitchmust have been in labour all day yesterday! As she began whelping at 1am, there wereno warning signs, no nesting, no temp drop! All are doing well! mum is very exhausted but caring for her 3 new born babies very well! Hoping to persuade my vet to make a house call tomorrow so i dont have to risk driving with her and the babies! :)
Thanks again for the support! :)
