Being nosey, just wondered why Chinese Crested are listed as a high profile breed in respect of health monitoring.?.
The reason that I ask is cos no health tests are listed under the breed on the KC site.

3 years ago I didn't even dream I'd ever qualify Razzle for Crufts, thought it would take years & years to get to that stage lol
Now I have attended twice with Razzle had 1st & 4th and in 2011 I'll have my young boy Asbo there aswell AND Razzle & I also qualified for both YKC stakes & handling!

I know alot of us do moan about Crufts being too much about the trade stands, the rings being hidden away behind them, not being able to leave till 4, the mass crowds poking & proding dogs & the hours it takes to get out of the car parks etc etc but deep down I think all of us (even the big wigs of showing) get excited & proud to be attending the greatest dog show in the world :)

I think it has to do with the breed being hairless and with some of them being very glamorous in the ring with profuse feathering and crests, some people tend to think that they are mistreated by being shaved etc which is not the case. Just my opinion.

I'm so sad to be missing it - I'll be going of course, and have splashed out on BIS tickets for me and my friend - but I've had Henry to exhibit every year since I've been showing until now. Oh well, perhaps Hetty will qualify for 2012! :-D

Not just shaved but plucked / waxed according to reports.  There was someone filming them ringside at Leeds this year that lead to complaints.  Apparantly (?) nothing to do with Miss Harrison.  The AHT has them listed as prone to PPL but of course the KC does not list them for any DNA / genetic screening available yet the AHT has a DNA test for this.

Thanks for that, yes I thought it was to do with skin/show preparation. Though when I watched the lovely Nora being prepared for the ring at Bournemouth apart from a rub down she was more interested in playing with her toys.!. What a sweetie and so much personality.

Well Poodles, Lowchens, Portugese Water dogs are all shaved.  Not to mention the many pet dogs who are very nearly shaved bald when going to the 'groomers'.

Oi, were you watching me this morning Barbara? :-p I only shaved that cocker's ears because they were totally matted!

I agree about the shaving of poodles etc. I think with cresteds it is because they are supposed to be hairless not shaved...Even the true hairless need a little touch up to remove some stubble. If they are watching the cresteds then what about all these poodles etc covered in hairspray??? With the cresteds what you see is what you get you cant hide anything!

And the outline of a dog left in chalk around the terriers, like the outline of a corpse at a crime scene!

The poodles are constantly 'picked on' and watched probably more than any other breed!  At Crufts last year officials spent all day parading up and down the poodles benches 'warning' folk - its crazy!!!!  Same at the first few champ shows of 2010 they were up and down the poodles benches and grooming area like the flipping army!!!  If a judge is worth his salt no amount of trimming or hairspray can hide the faults and if they cant see past that then they shouldn't be judging so maybe its the judges they select that they need to keep a closer eye on!

She does have a lifetime qualification...not to mention she qualified several times over this year anyway.

You only get it if you have entered the year before.

Ref: Cresteds surely it is a health watch nothing to do with the way they are prepared for the ring. If they are plucked or trimmed then they are not alone most terriers and many others are hand striped and many breeds are clipped or shaved, there is always the mention of chalk but there is no reason why a dog should not be cleaned with chalk it is not against any rule I know of, the only thing is that any preparation used in grooming a dog for the ring should not remain in the coat once that exhibit enters the ring.

When my mother showed her Poodle, it wasn't shaved but perhaps things have changed since then??

Lol, certain parts are shaved, not the whole animal, but then the cresteds have the furnishings.
