Our 10 month old GR has lost all interest in her food, as soon as I got her food out she would back away and not go near it. So we tried Arden Grange just a small amount last night and she ate it, but this morning she won't touch it. Also she just dosent look happy eating or after, she is going to the loo fine and is not sick at all. This has been going on for a week now, and I'm starting to gets bit worried.
What was she previously being fed on? Do you feed her just a complete food? You could try adding either water/gravy to soften it or add a little more flavour by adding some canned/raw/cooked meat.
Some dogs do go off their food for a while, especially if they are fed solely complete.
My 7 month old GR has her fussy days - usually at breakfast when she has her dried meal, I used to worry but now just pick it up if she doesn't want it and give her more in her evening meal.

She was fed on Symply, but got to the point she would back away as soon as I got it out. I always add some warm water to it and have tried adding some sardines etc but she wouldn't touch it if it had the Symply in it. Will leave her now till tonight and try her again with the Arden Grange as she ate it last night and had a mouthful this morning. Do you think she should see the vet if it continues?
Always difficult to say to others about taking their dog to the vet as you know her better than anyone. If she's fine in herself, leave her until tonight and see how she eats then. If she's still not eating it may be advisable to pop her to the vets as you don't want to leave it until they shut for the weekend.
Some dogs are quite happy with one meal a day. A friend's dog almost put herself onto one meal a day by continually refusing breakfast.
But, if you are at all worried, take her to the vet asap.
Let us know how she eats later.

There is a bug doing the rounds at the moment, which my youngster had , and caused the same symptoms ie not eating. After about a week of only eating very little she was sick one evening then the next day she had very loose poo then she was fine and starting eating as usual. Like you we were very concerned but as the vet could find nothing obvious we wondered if she had just gone off her food and were considering trying another brand. After she had recovered I have heard of several dogs having the same symptoms and have been told by our trainer that there is a lot of it around.
if you are worried a check up at the vets would do no harm

Have you looked in the mouth to see if there are any puppy teeth still there causing a problem?

We have had a good look, but all seems fine, that did cross our minds as she was rubbing her mouth on the ground after eating, but oddly didn't do it last night after the new food.

have you tried soaking the food for 10 -15 minutes ..this makes it smell more appetising.

try stirring little bit tomato ketchup into it. my fussy little madam is more inclined to eat her dinner on an 'off' day when add that.

Is she coming into her 1st season, I believe some bitches can go off their food at this time?
Might be worth calling the vet and having a word with them too!

When one of mine was a youngster she would not eat dried food, and still wont she also backs off from it,always had to feed her a wet diet mixed with terrier meal she is elderly now and has nature diet, she laps it up.Some dogs dont like dried food.
Sheila.

Has she had a season yet, or about due that will often put bitches off their food.
Also she may do better just fed once a day.
I would also avoid pandering and tempting her as you will make a rod for your own back and have a fussy dog.
If her weight is good and there are no signs of ill health then put, the food down for 10 minutes and remove until the next meal but do not give more to make up for the missed meal, you wnat her to feel hunger.
Cut out all treats for now until she is eating her meals again.

Well after 1 week if not wanting to eat and me worrying she has just eaten all her tea with great enthusiasm! I am so relived, and am now sticking with the Arden Grange. Thanks for all the great advice.
She might have had a nagging tooth ache and sensibly did not want to aggrivate it by eating? Who knows, glad things are looking up now.
