lol sorry about the abrupt title but she really does, its the only way i can describe it!! Even when shes had a bath, she starts smelling an hour or so later! We used to have blankets in her plastic bed but she really smelt after a day, so chucked that out, and she fell in love with my sons silky sleeping bag, which goes the same as the blanket. Any suggestions??!! it sounds awful but its not nice to stroke her neither, poor old girl lol.

I'd get her checked out at the vets, although dogs do have a 'smell' they don't usually smell quite as much as you describe (in my experience). If she is completely healthy, you might try changing her diet, and using a Neem based shampoo.
What breed of dog is she and how old is she, as some dogs smell a bit more as they get older!

could be a yeast infection ...I think the treament if it is... would be an anti-bacterial shampoo.
but a trip to the vet is advisable to find out the real cause.
ah sorry that might have helped! She's a traditional Shar-pei, she was a rescue dog and we assume she is 6 years old, maybe slightly older?? The yeast infection sounds probable then given she is a shar-pei! Although the only wrinkles on her are on her face and one on her neck. Thanks guys looks like a trip to the vets is in order then.

Hibiscrub used to bath her will tackle both fungal and bacterial infection.

Someone on here not long ago recommended Dermapet MalAcetic Otic for yeasty ears... I bought some and it has worked well in my lad's ears which used to smell bready on a regular basis... May have been caused by swimming in the sea though. He doesn't get to swim as much now as he used to, and in fresh water if he does.... but the MalAcetic can be used on skin generally not just ears, maybe that's an option, its pH balance helps stop yeast & fungal growth without the need for antibiotics.
i have a new bottle of hibiscrub for her sore paws, if i bathe her in this will it dry her skin out? and how would i use it? i usually dilute it for her paws, would i do the same for a 'shampoo', or lather it on neat??

Dilute, and you might like to use some moisturiser for the skin, something neutral. Cotton sheets for sleeping on.

Brainless. Have you found that for dogs with skin problems that cotton sheets/covers are better than vet bed. Many thanks, Lacy

I would imagine smooth cotton would be less likely to rub. also you can see if there is any residue, though to be fair vet bed is not supposed to harbour fungal growth, clean cotton sheets when you have itchy skin is nice.

Im thinking like others fungal or yeast infection, as she shouldn't smell that bad, on another note its not her breath is it?
Just had a sniff and no not really, normal dog breath i think :)

My pup gets a yeasty, sweaty smell on her every few months. I was prescribed Maleseb shampoo by my vet which clears it straight up. If you don't want to use this(and I don't) you can use Listerine original mouthwase. You wash your dog as normal and on the last rinse you use the listerine(diluted about 50/50) and leave in on to dry.
