I am considering breeding my three year old female leonberger and would be grateful for any advise people can give me. This would be her first litter so any info would be gratefully accepted

My advice would be to contact the breeder and owner of her dire for advice. Leos are a fairly new breed to this country, and do not have a huge gene pool. Therefore it is even more essential to mate together animals that complement each other, and as far as possible do not carry the same faults, especially ones of health or temperament.

The breeder and stud owner will know generations of stock behind your bitch with all their good and bad points, to them the list of names on the pedigree is shorthand for the flesh and blood creatures that are her ancestors, and they can see where certain traits have been passed on, for good or ill.

Could not better the advice you have been given, but don't hang about, time is short, there are probable very few studs available and their owners will not want to over use them so get one, the right one, booked asap. And also have a stand by incase the chosen dog does not want to serve your bitch or you bitch take a dislike to him. Good luck Ja:)kie

contact the leonberger club of gb, they have a stud dog register with all the dogs available. To be on the register all the dogs have current eye test's,hips and elbow score's.My dog is ok to be a stud dog but is to young yet.The club say 18 months old and he is 14. so he is available from sept 04.
OR uk leonberger stud book.It gives you all the breeders and litters plus the pedigree of each litter,it is the ideal way of finding a stud of your choice and line.
MY boy is oldholbans litter #6 and his kc is oldholbans minas tirith.
hope this helps you find your stud dog.
