Hi all,

I've just started weaning my little pups on puppy meat mashed up with puppy milk twice a day.  I put the bowl in hot water to warm it up and they seem to be taking an interest.  The littlest one though seems to back away from the bowl, i have put some of the food on my hand and he will lick it up then. I'm wondering if he's just not ready yet.  The other issue is i feed Megan outside the whelping box when the pups have their food in the box but when she is finished her food, she jumps in the box and clears up the pups food, she snaps and growls at the pups when they go near it too.  Is this normal or should I be doing this differently? I didn't know if she was teaching them or being being a greedy little so and so.

Sounds like my toys. They take a lot more convincing than the large pups. My current large pups I put a plate of food down to the day they turned 3 weeks and they finished it all in minutes, didn't need to do a thing. With the toys I have to put some food into their mouths and onto my fingers and then show them how it is in a bowl. They get it, it just takes a bit longer. The bitch sounds like mine (the toys, not the large ones) as well, so I would keep her out of the way when the pups eat.

Yes, Ellie is the perfect mum except when it comes to letting the puppies eat, she would happily scoff her own and all theirs too if allowed. Even now puppy is 5 months old they all have to eat in separate rooms so I know everyone has eaten the right amount.

i have to do this with my 3 girls , 1 will stand back and let the other 2 eat hers the other 2 go from 1 to the others dish so i now but 2 of them in their beds to eat and the other in the kitchen ,ive only ever had 1 girl that would wait for pups to eat what they wanted she would sit and wait once pups moved away from the food she then finished it LOL i found it very odd.
