one bitch, one dog the question is, should i have them done at the same time? or would the aftercare be too much?

I dont think the after care would be to much my female dog that I have is neutered and the aftercare is simple no jumping no rough play nothing strenuous! the advantage to having them done together is that they wont want to run round theyll both be dopy!
I agreewith the above post in respect to age I would only neuter a dog over 18mnths,

There is the not being hyped up together as a positive, but id be a bit wary personally as potentially they could get over the ops absolutely fine, but Mr sod always seems to get me with his law and I wouldn't want one to get an infection or need extra care and having 2 post opp, the likelihood of that happening is very low but I wouldn't want to take the risk, I be just getting one done for now.

Frankly I would not castrate a dog unless there was a health problem.
Think it better until they are fully grown to kennel one of them during the bitches season - preferable the bitch if you can find a kennel happy to have her.
i understand the delay regarding neutering and have put it off with the dog, but they are both rescue dogs and i am supposed to have them done by six months. its an unfair condition to adhere to especially with big breeds, i want to do whats best for the dogs (which is why i adotped them) but thats a story for another thread!
i read the link sent by the first poster (sorry cant see the name now) and although i knew bits and pieces of the report, am now even more concerned regarding age and necessity. i signed an agreement when i took the dogs on, and will happily follow through when the time is right but i dont want my dogs taken off me.

You are unfortunate in not being able to make your own mind up, however I would delay as long as possible particularly with the male.

yes, unfortunately some rescue organisations (and vets) don't understand some of the implications of early neutering. I would wait until they were physically mature and for certain until their growth plates had closed. If you don't do this they can grow taller than nature intended and this can put stress on their skeleton later in life - arthritis etc. There are as many pros to neutering (probably more) than cons....certainly until they are mature (I think mentally mature is also important) so if you can put it off until they are 18months or so it would be better. If they check up on you I would say you will have them done, but you want them to mature first and of course you want the bitch to be between seasons and it takes a few to work out her cycle. Just keep them separate when she is in season!
