on stewarding in a ring where not only are you friends (good friends who travel about to shows together) with some of the exhibitors but you have also bred some of the dogs entered?  Went to a show yesterday and this is what I found - no need to ask who get best puppy and best of breed!  I didn't think it was exactly ethical but just wondered what others thought.   I've learnt to pick my judges more carefully but not a lot I can do with the stewards lol.

Stewards don't have anything to do with the judging process so no issue at all.

I often know the stewards at shows I am competing in.

As Brainless said, the steward should have nothing to do with the judging. I always prefer to judge my own breed so that if my friends are in the ring I can hope they do well, and smile even more widely than usual if I am handing over a nice red rosette. But there is no way I would ever say anything to the judge like 'ooh, that dog there has it's JW, you should give him BOB' - no way!!!!!

Stewards often like to steward their own breed, they know the exhibitors and it is helpful for those who do or wish to judge. As said stewards have nothing to do with the judging and would soon get told off if they attempted to say anything to the judge with regard to the exhibits or the exhibitors.

The steward will be pleased if their friends do well they are, contrary to the beliefs of some, human.

Do think that perhaps husbands and wives should not steward for one another particularly if they both judge the breed.

Absolutely no problem with having a steward with the same breed even if their friends are entered.

They shouldn't advise a judge on who to place, but it can happen.

far worse is a committee member getting the judge and their partner showing under that judge.
