Hi Guys,
well its been two weeks and two days since my girl was mated and she has just started scratching her nipples like mad!! I'm thinking its hormonal but might take her to see the vet tomorrow as she is scratching and making them bleed. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have never experienced this. I think she certainly needs to see the vet if she is scratching them to the extent of bleeding. Personally I have never seen any of my bitches scratching their nipples. Does she have flea's?

No she hasn't fleas but I will defo get her to the vet tomorrow.

Food intolerance? allergy? just wondering if she is scratching generally, and the nips are getting in the way.

Defo getting it checked out tomorrow ..doubt its a food intolerance but she could be allergic to something.

Poor girl must feel demented, bless her.  Definitely not normal, and I have never heard of it as a hormonal reaction.  Not in years of pregnant bitches.  Let us know what vet says. 

is she still scratching today we are around the same time for our girls mine about day 18 and shes not doing anything like that ,fingers crossed your vet gets to bottem of it quickly xxx

Just an update..she has thankfully stopped scratching!! Afer a trip to the vet he said it looked like she was having an allergic reaction to something most probably environmental as we have never experienced anything like this before. My fault as I have started to bring her indoors since she was mated being overcautious and the central heating, carpet and my love of smelly airfeshners proabaly isn't helping as she is used to sleeping in a cool environment in the garage with the other dogs. He gave me an a shampoo to wash her down with and we have turned off the radiator where she is sleeping plus I am washing her bedding in a non-biological powder and soo far soo good! Just happy shes feeling more comfortable!

My girl does this when pregnant too.  It's like they are tingling and as soon as she feels it, she scratches and nibbles the top ones like mad.  I put a wet cloth on her tum to soothe it and she wears a t-shirt during the day.  My vet just thought is was her body getting ready for the puppies so we both didn't want to do anything medically to upset her.  She scratches till bleeding too but wearing a t-shirt has helped.  The first time she was pregnant, she scratched so much that her nipple is sort of deformed now and really large and never really went back down but she is pregnanty again now and I have had her nipples covered since the beginning so as to stop her scratching.
