Topic Dog Boards / General / Hypothetical Q re KC reg names/affixes
- By MsTemeraire Date 19.11.10 20:18 UTC
Off the top of my head this one.

Let's say I bought a puppy, and its KC Reg name was - purely for example - Mydogs Minger.
(Stop laughing at the back please).

Let's then suppose I liked the name Minger soooo much (no, please be quiet) I decided to register MY affix as Minger. Would that be allowed (to have the name of my dog as my affix)?

If so, and all goes through, as nobody else has the kennel name of Minger (I wonder why)....Could I then add my affix to its name, so it would be called Mydogs Minger of Minger..... or /at Minger /to Minger (you get my drift)?

Now you've had the best laugh all evening I should point out that Of Course I would not want Minger as a Kennel name.

.
.

Though on the other hand, it would be rather unique.... LOL

Off the top of my head I think this would be allowed although I have a niggling thought that it may not.

The naming of dogs is a bit of a mystery I had a bitch called we will say "Barking Angel" I added my affix so she became "Barking Angel of Nowhere" now whilst my bitch was still being shown her breeder registered another bitch called "Barking Angel" now although it does and will not carry my affix several people thought it was my bitch as it was being shown as well.

Now I am surprised that such a close name was allowed particularly as the breeders affix was the same but it was allowed and did cause confusion.

Why not? No one else would have it!! :) Just got in from a hard day and you have made me smile, thanks.

Don't know the answer but if you put in that name on the Kennel Club name checker it says it doesn't conflict with an active kennel name :-D

Ooh interesting! Can you name the way they did it?
[....or will you have to resort to Minger as an example?]

As someone else has already said...yes it is allowed...a friend of mine done this, not sure how she done it though. I suspect she asked/mentioned it the person who bred the dog, then applied in the usual way...this was 15-20 years ago.

The kennel club will allow the repeat of the name as it is unique as yours has had your affix added so changing it.

If ti was the exact same name it would be allowed after a period of time unless the previous one of the same name had won into the stud book.

I remember finding that one confusing, but then I would never choose to repeat a name, not even a call name.

My first bitch of another breed was called Saga at home, a rather appropriate name for an Elkhound, but I couldn't possibly use it, though I could use it in a registered name,a dn have considered it, but she died young and even though I am not overly superstitious, it might be bad luck.
