Puppies been seen by vet for a check up, I told him I had noticed a little hair loss on the head of two, he said we should put a spot on, on them just to make sure they are covered, was going to give strong hold, but they only had enough to give half the litter so instead he gave me advocate that I have used in the past, but not on puppies of this age (nearly 7 weeks) Box says safe on puppies 7 weeks plus. They are o.4 ml for dogs 4kg and under, my puppies weigh about 1 kg each. Who here would give it to them? I am worried I may harm them, I have used stronghold puppy before from 6 weeks and that was okay.

Mine often don't weigh 1kg at 3 months, so it would be a definite no for me.  Although I will watch with interest at any answers from folk with larger breeds.

I would use it on mine if necessary, but then my pups at 7-8 weeks weigh more than 4kg usually....what size breed do you have?

Do not use in puppies under 7 weeks of age.

Treatment of cats or dogs weighing less than 1 kg, and ferrets weighing less than 0.8 kg should be based on a risk-benefit assessment.

If still in any doubt I would contact the manufacturer.  They are usually very helpful.

We used Advocate on our litter at 8 weeks - They averaged 7 kg though, so not a good comparison. None had any adverse effects, although I'm not usually a fan of putting chemicals on puppies at all, in this instance, we needed to worm and flea before going to their new homes.

Sorry, I may be being dim here but what was the vet wanting to make sure they are covered for?

I wont ever use spot-ons on my adult dogs any more, I would never contemplate using it on pups.

I am assuming because there had been some loss of fur they were protecting agains mites as advocate covers this also
