Any suggestions. I was asked to bring a rough collie over from Belgium for someone in Ireland when I was bringing my boy. They changed their mind but by then I had included with my dog to bring through the tunnel. I have asked them for the money back for that cost and she has said she will pay it but so far no money. I am annoyed as she kept in contact with all the arrangement and where it was coming from etc. What can I do?
Oh boy, same old story isn't it, you try to do something nice and it backfires. :-( Thank goodness you weren't stuck with the dog too, (though I may have been tempted :-) )
If she doesn't come forward with the money you'll have to try the small claims court, have you got any e-mails etc stating costs and your intentions of charging her for the costs of transport, have you any witnesses that can prove she knew in advance that you were booking and pre-paying transport for 'her' dog too? Did she know how much it was going to cost?
You need to be very specific in what you actually told her re:costs not what you think she knew or took for granted.
Tell her you will be taking her to court if she does not pay up your expenses and hope that does the trick. ;-)
Unfortunately another lesson in never trusting anyone, always take money upfront or have a contract signed, people are brilliant at letting others down. :-(

you could have just told the tunnel that you were bringing one less with you and they wouldnt have charged you for it. i have done that several times when the number of dogs I was bringing back after a european show hanged, and they always refunded no problem.

I did tell her and itemized all the costs I also told her the cost of the tunnel this is all in e-mails and also her e-mail stating that she would pay it. I am tempted to put it on facebook as she uses it what do you think.

Facebook!!!! I know facebook seems to be the be all and end all to the way people converse today but definitely not something I would do to try to get my money back.
If I were you with the e-mails as evidence, I would call her one more time ask when she will be returning the money spent, if she comes across all coy or says she is not going to then tell her that you have her e-mails stating that she will pay for your expenses and accepting responsibility and you will have no choice other than to take her to court if she does not forward payment immediately now.
Then go to CAB or contact a solicitor to take things further if you have to.
Facebook I would give a miss for something like this, where would it honestly get you? :-)

Totally 100% agree. It would put most peoples backs up, and a lot would then purposely make you wait.
Don't tread a fine line.

peppe,
If all fails the only thing left is "name and shame" it may save someone eles. The trouble with court is it takes a long time and costs. Then she may not pay or a very same amount a month.
If she doesn't come forward with the money you'll have to try the small claims court,The way I understood it, this was just the cost for one extra dog to be brought through the channel tunnel (as the OP was going anyway), and that is £30. That's not enough to go to small claims court for.

Denese, I disagree. Twitter, Facebook and the like have made it all too easy to take disagreements to a public forum without ever really showing your face, in this way people feel completely unhibited by law and good manners. Cyber-harassment is a serious problem and one that can drift into libel.
To the OP you could try getting a solicitors letter if the debt justifies the expense, otherwise you may have to chalk it up to experience. Hindsight might suggest that getting the money in advance would have been prudent. Good luck

Oh gosh, do I feel stupid, is that how much this is about £30? Hardly worth the cost of a solicitors letter.
To our OP you could still go through a solicitor but really for this amount it's not viable. If she does not wish to pay up now, (maybe she has learnt that the fare could have been cancelled as Sam has already said) I think it will just have to be knocked up to experience and in future take the funds first before delving into your own pocket. It's a shame when favours like this backfire, I would just be very nice to her & try to appeal to her better nature, that you were doing her a big favour and it's not fair that you should lose out. :-( It's not very nice of her to backtrack on an arrangement, but you learn who your real friends are don't you?

I have tried being nice. Unfortunately I am a person who will help anyone never again. Perhaps I will wait my opportunity when she is at a show in the UK and approach her. It is now down to principal not the money. I would never do this to anyone and would not expect it to be done to me. To honest unfortunately.

To be honest I think you need to put this one down to experience as the amount is not significant enough to make an issue about. As Sam has also said you could have got a refund so in hind sight one of those situations that you should just leave and move on from.
If there is a next time ask for the money upfront to make sure you are covered :-)

For £30 it's really not worth worrying about, though as LJS has said if you are asked again make sure you get the money up front.

i dont see why you still cant get your money back from the tunnel....I certainly did when I changed my show plans, they just refunded me the one dog £30 fee on my card after we got back to the UK. Why cant you do that??
