Came home today to find my 6 month old pup has destroyed a wall, great big hole in it! I have owned my breed for 8 years now and have never had any damage done by any of my dogs as pups or adults. She has plenty of toys/chews and was alone for 3 hrs with her mum and my 2 yr old. Have covered edges of the hole with Vicks vaporub (only foul tasting thing I could find LOL) and will attempt a repair tomorrow, but at a loss as to why she did it, can just see the others looking at her saying 'what you playing at!' LOL :-)

I once had to absolutely cover a door frame in Colman's English Mustard to try and prevent chewing.  My Bearded Collie bitch loved it so much that she would salivate while watching me plaster it around the door.  Hope yours doesn't enjoy Vicks as much as mine enjoyed mustard!

I had to spray my things (yes that also included a wall ;-) ) with a really cheap, horrid smelling perfume to deter my dog from cewin many years ago. I sprayed the things then sprayed near the dogs mouth so he got the taste and smell of the perfume, but it didn't directly go in his eyes, nose or mouth. He never did it again.

Is that one that I saw on Sunday?  Don't know what I'd do if one of mine did that LOL!

By the way the show was on on Sunday as Barbara and Anne had shown their dogs there before Hyde!

Is it a solid wall or plasterboard? Reason I ask is my boy did exactly the same with our kitchen wall, he "worked" on his piece of art every time he was left! There was a bit of damp in the area he chewed & I always wondered if the dampness in the wall was what attracted him to it.

Whatever the reason, it's no joke when they destroy things, especially the house! My boy chewed all the doorframes, chewed the walls, made holes in the front of both our sofas, destroyed a rug, you name it, he chewed it!!

Your post is a timely reminder to those who say such things as "my dogs have never/will never..."!

sometimes you are lucky for a long time, and some times you are not!

Sometimes dogs just like the taste of stuff!

(Amazing when you consider that some owners complain of their pets' "fussiness"!

My commiserations!

And to think we buy small grade puppy kibble when they can obviously chew through big stuff. My youngster has had some wallpaper off the wall. The paper is 10 years old, I can't find any spare bits and probably wont be able to buy another roll.

Yes Diane, that was the one you saw Sunday LOL - butter wouldn't melt!! you wouldn't think she had the jaws for it but caught her today starting on another patch whilst I was completing the repair - room stinks of Vicks now - oh well at least we will have clear sinuses!

I have a GS that does this too, the dog room now has more holes that plasterboard. However i have been told plaster contains calcium, so maybe a suppliement for a couple of weeks might help?
