I have a young flatcoat male (19 months) who is maturing nicely but is very short on coat.

Can anyone recommend any supplements I could give him.

Dorwest herbs have supplements to help with coat growth.  I can't remember the name but I used this a few years ago and either it worked or her coat eventually had come in!!

Try Yumega, worked wonders with Ellie both time she dropped coat after having puppies.

why the pm - can't you share??? I'm sure many of us would be grateful for help on growing coat - its taken my Gordon 3 1/2 years to get his but still could do with some help :)

I didn't find it that good Lucy - even the sensitive for my itchy boy didn't seem to help that much :(

lol, only contribution i had was evening primrose oil and gold lable 3 oils (they do 4 oils but i can readily buy 3 oils as opposed to ordering 4 oils from internet :) ) my girl is in same position as OP's dog (and same age)

Ooohh, can someone fill me in on the big secret ?? I have a completely naked 5 year old Aussie whose parents have huge coats and he has nothing... I have tried Yumega and Salmon Oil and they didn't work....

And I have a three year old Aussie that seems to have less coat than she did when she was a puppy :(

not trying to hide anything just did not know if we could say the name on the boards as some boards do not let you say products, it was just yumega, my girl has dropped all her coat and was extremley bald, been on yumega a week and can see a huge difference,

also i know of people that kennel their dogs outside to give them a good coat, as they say that the central heating in a house plays havoc with the dogs coat.

I was told to try Sea Kelp tablets, this is for us and dogs alike :-).. Made no difference to me personally, not tried it on the dogs..

dorwest do that but is it sea kelp you have to be careful in the summer?

Ill agree with the temperature theory. A house dog is likely to have less coat and a more irregular shedding pattern than one which is kept outdoors. We have a half and half setup as obviously we want them as pets/house dogs firstly but they do sleep outdoors which seems to work, big thick coats and only 2 sheds a year (Spring and Autumn).

Cant comment on any products as never used them as the housing setup works for us.

I have no idea missus, I was told to try it when I really wanted long long hair. Got mine from H&B..Have a good load here if you want to try them? No BBE date though, hmmm.

I could do with a magic formula.  My youngest looks such a mess, just dropped it after season.

it depends what foods he on as well,
pagan coat is ready lovley at he moment on fish 4 dogs

plus it depends if the dam/sire had coat. too

I know my Gordons take a long time to get there coat so not really surprised but if there was a way to encourage it :)

My 2 boys are both house dogs, one has the biggest coat you have ever seen, but my show boy has a pathetic coat (nice and shiny but not much of it)!  Think I may try the Yumove and hope he grows a coat in time for Mcr in Jan! :)

Mine are outside during the day but in at night and fed raw.  His mum has a good coat but his dad was very slow to mature (not unusual for males!!!).

Ghillie nearly died in the summer due to a swallowed sock which resulted in 2 ops, 1 to remove the sock and 1 to remove 1/2 metre of intestine so tbh am just happy he is still here but thought it would be good if I could encourage his coat along.

Will give Yumega a try and if it doesn't work will try some of the other suggestion so thanks everyone.

Maght have some strange looking posts when i try.

Coat is normally a hereditary thing, so if one or either of your dog's parents doesn't have much coat then there could lie the problem.

To encourage growth - Royal Jelly preferably fresh.

I have had a supplement called RESTORE recommended to me and I find it seems to work on our shih Tzu's. I think I bought it at Hub or one of the other stalls but I know you can google it:-)
