Topic Dog Boards / General / How to make a dog's breath fresh?
- By suejaw Date 14.11.10 17:02 UTC
I've just got back to from the beach and there was all kinds of things washed up, managed to divert both dogs away from a half eaten stinky fish only to then see that my eldest had found a lovely spanking untouched fish, like it was just for him.

The smell on his breath is dire and had the windows open all the way home, I can't bare to have him inside right now, he didn't roll in it, but sure does smell like it :-(

This is what the fish looked like, http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.sethwhite.org/images/animals/antarctic%2520cod.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.sethwhite.org/animals.htm&usg=__SiTzO9iINuvy6s4hhwzX1TlA4cs=&h=1200&w=1600&sz=177&hl=en&start=15&zoom=1&tbnid=YKCgaxMTALTSbM:&tbnh=128&tbnw=170&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcod%2Bfish%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D578%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C464&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=974&ei=VhTgTPfwPNS7jAfZoMjJAQ&oei=URTgTMahDqqqhAefi-TSDA&esq=2&page=2&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:15&tx=60&ty=90&biw=1024&bih=578 have no idea what it was but need something quick to feed him or stick in his mouth to get rid of the smell.

The website identifies that picture as an Antarctic cod! Where on earth are you?
- By suejaw Date 14.11.10 17:12 UTC
LOL... I'm down on the south east coast, have no idea what this fish was but looked a smaller version of that. It wasn't a normal cod, mackeral or cuttle fish, did google those, so have no idea...

Anyway can you help with my dilema?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 14.11.10 17:21 UTC
Could it have been a Dogfish? I've seen those washed up on the beach before.
- By suejaw Date 14.11.10 17:27 UTC
Ooh yes, thats a strong possibility, now to find an antidote for the smell its left in my dogs mouth?

Parsley?
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 14.11.10 17:57 UTC
Ditto for the parsley. Good luck.

Have a pot of flat leaf parsley growing, pulled a handful out and shoved it in his mouth. Smelt a little better, so he's now had some garlic too, letting that settle now :-)

Rather garlic breath than stinky dog fish, how flamming appropriate too.. lol

We love Dogfish (rock Salmon) and the dogs get the less choice bits.  Nothign wrogn with fishy breath.

Fresh fishy breath, no. Rotten fishy breath is another matter!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 14.11.10 19:54 UTC
She said it was a fresh one though
- By suejaw Date 14.11.10 21:25 UTC
It was untouched, but wasn't what I would call fresh mind, lol... I could smell it before he'd even started chomping on it, eugh!!!

He's had a good walk now as we tried to find this lost dog and smells a lot better too..

A friend mentioned dog toothpaste, which is also another good idea which slipped my mind..
