My anuty moved to Tunisia last year to marry a tunisian. Later that year she had her daughter bring out her Bichon. Now shes coming back because things didn't work out. I know that she cannot bring the dog directly into the UK as Tunisia is listed as a non rabies safe state but can she take the dog directly into France? Then wait there for 6months and then bring the dog back to the uk?

Also does anyone know the most affordable way she could get the dog into France.

Thanks for all your help if she doesnt get some help she will have no choice but to leave the dog is tunisia and tunisians dislike dogs.

You have to get in contact with the respective embassy in the UK and talk to them, they are really nice and will help you work out how to get the dog back and usually good with telling you the best route and what is needed on the pet passport, ask them to email it to you so you can read it.

I found France was a bugga to get a pup through but it was generally due to UK laws and the laws of the countries they were destined for.

if she takes the dog to france (or spain or wherever) and then gets a pet passport then yes she can. Knowing Tunisians and their attitudes to dogs very well, she would be better off having him euthanased than left there!

Hi Sam and thankyou so much for your help. He already has a pet passport which he got in England before she went to Tunisia. I advised getting the ferry from Tunis to Genoa in Italy and then getting the train to Paris. Hopefully the authorities won't mark his passport down has having been to Tunisia then she could bring him straight in without waiting 6 month. Unfortunately she will have no vehicle.

That would be fraud.  The whole point of the Pet Passport is that dogs have only been in Rabies free countries for the preceding 6 months.

The French rules are quite tight over what animals can travel to France.

Change of plan she has decided to rehome him with a lovely french couple who live in Tunisia and love the breed.
