Can anyone offer any advice as to finding accomodation near the World Dog Show venue for Paris 2001 please?
If you have looked at the WDS site on the listings of the local hotels with no luck then try CDG Airport locality as it is very close to the exhibition site. There are lots of small hotels / motels in the area. Otherwise if you are going just the night before you could stay further out in a small town area like Beauvais, Compiegne, or closer to Calais / Dunkerque Amiens. It is not that far a drive from Calais, even closer from Le Havre.
http://www.ibishotel.com/hotel-directory/gb/europe/france/villepinte/villepinte-hotel.htm Several of the Ibis chain hotels around Villepinte area though they are not as "budget" as you may hope for! Generally though Ibis hotels are quite cheap and accept dogs so again try the chain slightly more north / north-east or north-west of Villepinte / CDG Airport. Just checked quickly and the airport area Ibis hotels all show vacancies for the WDS dates.
Hi thanks all for your replies, much appreciated and hopefully they will help others who havent been very organised like me :-)
I managed to get one via expedia (A Novotel) that accepts dogs thank goodness. Not an easy task mind you, as already mentioned by MarianneB most of the dog ones are full now!
On a side note does anyone know what we have to do about returning to the UK with dogs, is there a vet at the show that can do the necessary checks/tick treatment or do we have to find a local one? I've been trawling the WDS site but have yet to find the answer.
Thanks again all
I really cant decide whether to enter or not, the entry fee is a bit steep for me! I heard there is a back to back show, but I cant find any details. Does anyone know anything about this? Two shows in the same trip may make it more worth while.
I havent heard anything yet but I'm struggling just to get to grips with this one!
I noticed that the vet information section says that dogs have to be muzzled when not in the ring?! Is this a law in France in general?

When you say dogs have to be muzzled when not in the ring are you talking about any specific breed. I live in France and regularly show and don't know anything about dogs having to be muzzled, I will try to find it in the vet section (have to say I don't know about the dogs classed as dangerous dogs).
There is another show at the same time as the WDS it is the Championnat de France (in the same place), you can find the details on www.cedia.fr, you can change the language on this site to English but it will give you details of the show. Any problems let me know and I will send details on to you.

It says that's for Rottweilers, Tosas and Am Staffs. That's how I read it anyway -whoever has written the schedule and bhe website is not very good at English. :)
Thank you for the link to the second show. I was made redundant so cant book quite such an expensive trip before I find something else, but now I'm very worried about hotels! Maybe it just wasn't meant to be this time round.
Thanks for the other link Jan.
Not sure Marianne B as it says:
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION - MANDATORY HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
Category 2 dogs: a valid anti-rabies vaccination certificate, indicating the dog's identification number will be required at the entrance of the exhibition for all Rottweiler, Tosa and American Staffordshire Terriers, as well as for all foreign dogs. It is recommended that dog-owners of the above breeds take the necessary measures to comply with article 211-5 of the 6 January 1999 decree (municipal receipt, when outside the ring and their cage, dogs should be kept on a leash and muzzled at all times) (Decree n° 2009-1768, dated 30 December 2009).
So does that mean just the Rottweiler, Tosa and American Staff Terriers or are all foreign dogs lumped in there too?!
Their veterinary requirements are worded in a way that suggests they may be very unflexible to foreign dogs full stop. If you note they also state for ALL dogs the rabies stamp must be over 1 month old but LESS than 12 months old! So how many of us planning to go have dogs on a 2 yearly gap between boosters, or even a 3 year gap as some UK vets now do, and Sweden is a 3 year gap between boosters. And they list "several" dogs as being liable to taxes - how many is "several"? Uusually 5 or more may be seen as commercial but this is too vague, I am taking 4 or 5. I am writing to the French KC for clarification of everything in writing as they have so far failed to respond to 3 emails requesting this. And as they have a stand at the Brussels dog show I hope to get more info (hope being the operative word). I would hate for anyone to get there and be refused entry as their dog's rabies booster on the passport shows being done say November 2009 with the next one due Nov 2011 as is the average 2 yr gap for the UK.
From the WDS site:-
Note to foreigner exhibitors
I - The Customs are liable to require, to an exhibitor with several dogs, a tax declaration and payment of corresponding charges.
II - The admittance in France is only permitted for dog 3 months old, subject to presentation to customs of a certificate, delivered by an official veterinary attesting than rabies, Carré disease, infectious hepatitis vaccination have been carried out for more than one month and less than one year. For animals more than one year old accompanying travellers, only rabies certificate is required. A French or English translation will be required for countries using a different alphabet. Dogs without these documents will be refused.
III - These documents are required for admission to the Show. The dogs must be in perfect health condition. The origins of each dog will be proved at any time. The official Vet may refuse the admission of dogs in the Show in the event of non conformity to health regulations.
Meant to add Germany also has a 1 yr gap only for boosters for residents dogs but the shows there they do word the veterinary requirements as such that they accept other countries like the UK and Sweden have a 2 or 3 year stamp and they will allow that for entry to the show. At the WDS in Denmark they did check vaccination stamps on the day I exhibited, but in Stockholm in they did not.

Only dogs in category 2 Dangerous Dogs will have to be muzzled they have to be muzzled in all public places, they will not expect "foreign dogs" not in this category to be muzzled. The piece about the taxes I think is something they have to put in a legal requirement - nothing to do with the SCC just to do with Customs, I assume if you have a return journey booked if you are stopped there wouldn't be a problem. I will call the SCC for you to clarify the Rabies jab issues if you don't have any answer from them soon.

I'd really like a firm answer on the worming/tick treatment being available at the show as well. We're arriving Friday, leaving Sunday (showing Saturday) so will not have enough time to do it before we leave -plus we have a 5 hour journey to get to the channel tunnel in the first place from home, so really need it done Saturday in France.
Certainly not on our day, much to the gripe of many exhibitors who had gone through all the hoops and expense for the extra titre test to comply with the Swedish Ag dept ruling.

Harkback I meant the normal vaccinations, not rabies.
I also meant vaccinations general as in the passport ours are all recorded in that, rather than having another card for "standards". They just did not ask for anything.

Thank you Jan! Its a bit of a minefield when your a first timer. I've only been showing in the UK since I got my lad a couple of years ago so I'm not very experienced anyway let alone showing abroad, just thought it too good an opportunity to miss seeing as its just through the tunnel.

Hi all, I received a call this morning, at last, from the French Kennel Club (SCC) to confirm that there will be vets at the shows to do the paperwork for passports. I asked the question about uk Rabies vaccinations being valid for 2 years and not the one year that they are in France and he said the Rabies Vac had to be "valid", if the manufacturer in the UK makes it valid for 2 years then that's ok! Hope that helps and with the Dog World article as well today, hopefully everyone will have their questions answered, if anyone has any questions that I can help with I'm happy to give the SCC a ring for you. Hope to see some of you in Paris next year!

>he said the Rabies Vac had to be "valid", if the manufacturer in the UK makes it valid for 2 years then that's ok!
It depends on the renewal date in the passport. If the booster is done in the UK then the vet wil put the renewal date as 2 or 3 years hence (depending on vaccine). If the same vaccine is used in France the renewal date will be just one year, as per French law. So make sure you get your boosters done here!
OMG was thinking about it but looks and sounds SOOOOOOOO complicated one of my dogs rabies and passport is stamped untill 07/04/11 i have never took him abroad but was thinking i might so when do i need to get him done again? and my younster who has neither?
>one of my dogs rabies and passport is stamped untill 07/04/11
Then he needs to be boostered
before that date. If it's overdue even by a single day you'll have to start the whole procedure again, the same as for your youngster getting his for the first time.
do i just need to booster? do i need to renew passport or does that automaticaly update with booster?
and how much is it these days as will have to get younster done soon

The passport lasts for life as long as the boosters are done within time. A new passport costs about £200 all in, and takes 7 months from start to the animal being allowed back into the UK.
so if i got my younster done now would it be in time for world show paris?

Stupid question but how do you qualify for the WDS is it gaining a stud book number or gaining a CC/ RCC?

If you started it tomorrow, and the blood test was satisfactory, your dog could come back to this country after
about 18th June. When is the show?
ETA: just googled, and it's early July, so all being well the passport would be fine.
