Hi Everyone,

I am a vet nurse studying dog behaviour and would really appreciate it if you could spare 5 minutes to fill out my dog owner questionnaire?

Many Thanks

Some of the questions would have a different answer if they refer to people or other dogs.  For example food guarding (I'd expect them not to let another dog take their food), displeasure at being disturbed in sleep, toy possession, so I assumed response to people which the one I chose (my 11 year old naughty girl Jozi) are all no.

The sexual behaviour one had me non plussed, as it depends on whether you consider the behaviour normal or appropriate, or nto as to whether you consider the behaviour a problem behaviour.

For example I would expect in season bitches to indulge, or dominant ones, others might be horrified.

Have done the questionnaire, but had a strange sense of deja-vu when I saw the Exercise/Affection/Discipline table... I'm wondering what the background to the survey is?

Same here, so with scent hounds I indulged and combined the best of both dogs!

I know what you mean one of mine is a lurcher so it was yes yes and yes for all the chasing questions! Obviously I keep him on a lead when any temptations such as joggers and cyclists are around so he doesn't get the chance to indulge in such naughtiness but he so would if given the option.

I am just concerned about the question about does your dog eat faeces to which I answered sometimes but I must emphasise this is not a behaviour trait I have ever exibited :-P
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.10 16:45 UTC
It didn't specify whether it what sort of faeces - horse/cow/sheep faeces are 'normal' fodder and not usually a cause for concern, but dog faeces are a problem.

Done.  I had a bit of deja vue as well but I know where it comes from.  I see a lot of similarity to the C-BARQ areas of study.  http://vetapps.vet.upenn.edu/cbarq/  kat84, are you familiar with C-BARQ and will there be any integration with it?

ETA:  I think my present dog and I are quite different personalities.  I am quiet, withdrawn and not outgoing at all.  I like small groups of people and avoid noise, commotion and things like parties if I can.  I'm shy.  My Lab is confident, outgoing, gregarious with people and dogs and thinks he is Mr. Cock of the Walk.  My first Lab was just like me but this one, no way.

Thank you so much to you all for participating! Much appreciated!
I will try my best to answer your questions. One thing a lot of people were asking was about the final question re. exercise, affection, discipline. I don't think this question has much use in my research but I thought it would be interesting. My overall aim is to use the data to develop behaviour modification techniques that take into account not only the dogs behaviour problem but also the personality of the owner. I felt the last question would give me an overall perspective of owner priorities.
Obviously there are limitations to the questionnaire which I will have to take into account. Individual interpretations of what is classed as a behaviour problem is something that will always vary from one dog owner to the next.
I will of course take breed traits into consideration when analysing the results!
I am not here to judge anyone and cannot trace the questionnaires back to you. When I receive the results it does not tell me where the original source was i.e this forum or another source
Thanks again for taking part.
