Sorry if this question has been asked previously.
I have been reading and hearing about how easy it seems to be for police to take away any animal they deem to be of a banned breed or dangerous dog.I own a crossbreed , staff x boxer and am becoming increasingly worried that if someone just didnt like the look of him out on our walks that they could report him and because of how he looks he could be taken away from us.I know for him to spend any time in kennels would destroy him.He is a rescue and still very un confident. When looking at how these confiscated dogs are treated in kennels I'm really not sure I could ,if the worst happened ,put him through being taken away.I'm sure alot of dogs could cope with spending time in kennels away from their family but I don't think my boy would.
Have any of you thought about what you would do if the police came to your door and said they were taking your dog just because of the way he looked ?( obviously it goes without saying if the dog had attacked someone or another dog , then thats a different thing altogether )

dont really know on this one, the only thing i could suggest is having the dog dna tested and make sure the dogs microchip number and maybe profile photographs (both sides) on the corresponding paperwork regarding test results. maybe include any distinctive markings. getting all the information signed by your vet.?

Otis,

Its highly unlikely that anything will happen to your dog. If its been out of control and not behaving in a public place this will draw attention to your boy, more so seeing as its a bull breed cross.

Making sure you boy is well behaved around other people and dogs you shouldn't have any problems.

Yes I agree nothing is likely to happen. He is a good boy around other dogs and people , the only time I worry is when he gets scared then he starts to get more fear aggression.i.e if he sees kites in the sky ect he becomes very upset and I have to put him on lead for his own and others sake.I am going to be working with a behaviourist to get him over his  issues but I am starting to think I should for his sake keep him on a lead all the time which would be a huge shame as he loves to run and play with his buddy .The worrying thing is looking on DEFRA website , they say for the dangerous dogs act it doesn't matter what breed your dog can be proved to be , IF he LOOKS to be of pitbull TYPE they can seize him even if he hasn't behaved badly in public .I have 4 dogs and they do make a commotion at the gate when people pass but they can't get out, its purely territorial and they quiet when people come in and greet people nicely but someone walking past could think he was dangerous and report him. My boy does look more pitbully as he has the height more towards  a boxer than a staffy but the longer face of a staff than the boxer. Yes I may be able to win the case in court with the help of the best lawyers but in the meantime he would be suffering in kennels while we waited.

If this is really causing you to lose sleep at night do as Claire_41 suggested. Have your dog DNA tested to confirm his breeds, here is a company that will do it and they have both boxer and staff in their DNA database:
