i feed them with shirleys lactol gold,

two days ago i ran out and bought lactol
it looks  the same,only on the lactol it has a picture of a puppy and a kitten,
i thought nothing of it and used it the same,
until all my pups have severe diarrhoea

i wormed them on sunday also

what should i do, i have pepto bismol
i think its due to the food change

the stools are yellow and watery
they are still very playful and bright eyed

any advise?

It could be the change in milk our litter had this and we were advised to feed them natural Yogurt and it worked, though we also went to the vets for a solution that added friendly bacteria back into their little tummies.

I hand reared three toy puppies last year and had the ezact situation as you. The local shop ran out of Lactol Gold and it was Christmas so I couldn't order any online. I had to use Lactol they all had diarrhoea (same colour and consistency). After a few days it settled and all puppies were fine. We actually left them on Lactol as we found it suited them better after the initial change.

make sure they dont get dehydrated.

I had one pup in a litter that was very loose, and taken to the vets.  Apart from him being the only one on Protexin, I gave them all Goats yoghurt.  I found it very successful, and pups scoffed it down.

It was easy enough to find in Sainsbury's, there is a picture of a goat on the carton.

i was told by a very good breeder that goats yoghort with probiotic is no good because a pup would need to eat more then a pot full for it to do any good ,and then it could give them the runs with too much lol ...i know dont bother i just give the pups the paste (forgot what its called?)i get it on line and does work very well :) but i do give small amounts of the yoghurt because they love it :)

is the paste pro-kaolin ?

if so you can now buy that in bigger lloyds pharmacy's (obviously a bit more expensive but if you need it you'll pay for it wont you)

Do they need bottle feeding at 4 weeks old?

not sure what breed they are? but mine wouldnt need to be bottle feed at 4 weeks old ,i start weaning mine at 17/18 days old! mine would be eating and drinking from a bowl :)

ive just looked and there a med size breed so id thought they would be drinking from a dish and eating well by now! x

today i started to wean them , i used science plan for puppies,soaked in boiled water, they liked it, and i topped up with a bottle, as their tummy is still settling,

can anyone recommend the best thing to start them on for solids,

their tummys have settled down now thank godness,and they are now in a big  playarea and loving it

just carry on what you are doing! science plan puppy food soaked in COOLED boiled water is fine :) and if they get very fussy just had some wet puppy food to it :) ,why dont you put the milk in a dish for them to drink from ,shouldnt have any problems at this age? xx

yes, they should be on solids now, it may be part of the trouble with them...usually bottle fed pups are put onto lapping and solids earlier than natural fed pups.  I'd say it was critical to get them onto solids now.  Minced beef raw - but freeze first, thaw and feed - I would say they should just eat but you can put a little in their mouths to start them going.  Alternative would be soaked puppy food, scrambled egg.  I think you'll find that these pups will dive into the food and it'll put their tums right.

i just soak a cupfull and and see how you get on :) how many do you have is it 5 pups? if they eat it all then soak more i go by how much they eat i always what to see pups walk away and theres food left so i know all of them have had enough! i let mum in to eat whats left and if mum dont want to go into them take the food to her she might just eat the left overs if not throw it away ,by doing it this way ive always had fat puppies ,i wouldnt be happy with all the food gone in 2mins and pups still looking for food xx
