Roughly how much do any of you pay to have the new pups dew claws removed. It used to be £10 per pup for both docking and dew claw removal. Wondered if this has changed.  Thanks

My vet charges a consultaion fee (£29.50)  regardless of how many pups, he done 11 for that fee for me.

My old vet charged £12 per puppy, my old, old vet £20 per puppy, my new vet not a penny. I only have rear ones done but get a lot of them and giant ones too, bigger than the front ones even.

Thank you for your replies.

I used to have my front dews removed (on a toy breed), but stopped last year.  Only because I felt that it is going to be the next thing that they ban!

My vet charges me for a consultation.  But I have only ever had a litter of 2 for him to do.

Why stop unless you have to is my opinion.

My mother does ours so no fee, completely free :)

Odd isn't it?  :-)   For many years I showed cavies, and an extra toe meant disqualification, so I always removed any extras at birth.  I never once had excessive bleeding, or had a little one cry or make a noise.

So I don't know why I feel so queasy at the thought of doing it for a newborn pup.

When my vet used to dock, he also did the dew claws, but once the ban of docking came into effect, he also stopped removing dew claws, haven't a clue why

What is even odder is that dew claws can be removed by anyone, not just a vet.

yep thats what i've always thought, so a big uproar about a qualified vet docking, but it is perfectly ok for anyone to cut off a toe!

my rotts have the rear ones removed if they have any, but fronts are left on, backs are only removed because they are big and very loose unlike the front ones that sit tightly to the leg.

My mother used to do tails aswell but stopped quite a while ago(10 years of more) .

Sometimes someone might have more experience taking off Dew claws, than the vet.

I think it's important to have these flappy loose ones removed.  Just from a saftey point of view.

My Border Collie boy has lovely small, tight front dews, and uses them like a thumb.  It's great to watch.  Yet my youngest Beardie girl has front ones that I wish had been removed at birth.  They are large and loose, and she is always catching them.  When you see one that has ripped, and the nerve endings showing, I feel so sorry for her.
