Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Not wanting a walk.

Have just called both dogs to come and get ready for a walk and they are pretending to be fast a sleep, they loath going out in the rain. It's alright if it starts when we're out, but to get them out the door when it's pouring down is another matter. If it was a dry day they would be eager to go and charging around the house in anticipation but today its all very quiet, heads down and hoping that I don't insist. Does anyone else have this problem?

Wish I did!! :)

All 3 of mine love the water, in any form, and my only problem is getting them out of it!!!

If only! Getting them to go outside to wee might be a problem in the rain, but they're only too keen to go for a walk in it, though the Cavaliers do appreciate a coat to keep their backs dry.

Gsd is fine whatever the weather even still chooses to eat his dinner outside. Now Mia the little toy breed if the weather is even a little bit wet/cold will snuggle  down grin at you and refuse to budge even if her favourite person isnt doing the walking is enough to make her refuse to go.

With her as she a toy breed and can manage quite happily with our garden and out with me in the car to visit friends I dont always push her to go oh yes and she does wear a coat this weather. Infact am looking for areasonably priced on warm waterproof one to cover her all over at Discover dogs this week

Yeah, same problem here, my lot hate the rain.
Just getting them into the garden can be an effort, they stick their nose out, feel the rain, give me a look of disgust as if to say "you really want us to go out in that"! and head straight back to the sofa's. LOL.

Yes I have one like that, she will not even go out for a wee, she runs and hides underneath a cupboard if it rains and you have to drag her out. The rest couldn't care less what the weather is like! But my Cavalier hates going out if it is dark.

YES hahaha!!!!!
I managed to get both my dogs in the car after they had refused to go in the garden for a wee yesterday and then I had to bribe them to get out of the car!!! They both flatly refused to leave the car and if they could have got any further into the car boot and away from me I'm sure they would. I thought that I'd have to drag them around the park but luckily they did what they needed to do (in record time lol) and dragged me back to the car.
They are currently snuggled up together on the sofa, watching the rain from inside!!! It's a dog's life!

All my three go out they are not bothered in the slightest, my friends Dobe won't even go outside for a wee in this weather, let alone a walk! she will hold it as long as she can :)

When we have been too busy to take them out for a good walk until the afternoon, I have known the elder one not go out till 11am even to relieve himself and then had to push him out the door. Now days I'm not so kind he gets a push before he is allowed breakfast. Prehaps I should get him a coat. He's come along way since he first came to us, when he refused to walk through puddles, mud, would avoid wet grass and the beach terrified him (which he now loves). Guess he was just used to concrete.

My GSD hates the rain. He flatly refuses to go outside when there's any rain. Like others on here I have to prise him out of the door just to have a wee!!! lol

Ditto, last year was the first time in years that snow settled for any length of time and both dogs loved it, as for wind it howls every day here.

But my Cavalier hates going out if it is dark.

My very large GSD is scared of the dark and won't go out unless I shine a torch down the garden, and if it's raining" forget it" she would burst rather than go out.

mine dont care about the weather ...I would be delighted if they didnt fancy going  out in the wet although I do try to hold on until there is hopefully a break in the weather as my lot are a nighmare to clean up after with thier long coats and furry legs and hairy feet!
