Topic Dog Boards / Health / Quick Update on TT with bad tummy

Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know we have eventually got to the bottom of Freddy's tummy problems. It only took 6 months!!!!
We have a new lady vet in our practice who has taken great interest in Freddy's colitis and we have now had the relevant tests done (stool samples which showed no problems with parasites etc and then bloods which have thrown up lots of allergies) He is highly intolerant to corn!! Intolerant to cows milk, barley, rice, beef products.

So, at last we get to the bottom of it! (If only our other vet had done the tests in the first place instead of changing foods for months)
Fred has been on Symply Light and a little bit of Nature Diet for the past couple of weeks and so far so good, but, he has to be changed on to Salmon & Potato as the vet thinks this is the only diet he is really going to be able to tolerate. We will probably go for Wafcol  Salmon & Potato

Anything to get him off the mustard tablets (as we call them in our house) Salazopyrin!

We now have another TT puppy (Freddy's sister from recent litter) and are sincerely hoping she has not inherited the dodgey tum lol!

Anyway, all is well at the moment so I will keep you informed as to how we get on. Hopefully no more crampy, gassy tums and loose bloody motions!!!!! We live in hope :-)
Thanks for all your help at the time. I still look in to see how other doggies are getting on and hopefully one day I'll be able to pass on some good advice. We live and learn lol!

so glad you've finally sorted this out. Freddy must be feeling a lot better now.

Excellent - its amazing what a decent vet can come up with !!! my Bedlington has Colitis and thanks to a low dose steroid every day we seem to have sorted him out.  We did the food tests and nothing came back so we have stuck with Burns Fish and Brown rice and Naturediet stinky fish food !!!
