Hi, My 18 month old AB is currently on Atopica for a skin allergey, we had paid for skin scrapes, full blood tests everything and still we have not pinpointed the exact allergy, although he does flare up worse when the pollen is high. At the moment his skin is terrible and the atopica only seems to be helping slightly, we bath with hibiscrub, hes has regular medicated baths and still his skin seem to be so sore, has anyone else encountered this problem or is my boy on his own?
I had a bullmastiff a few years ago that had severe allergies we had all the tests done thank god he was insured lol they tested for everything food/plants etc....it came back he was allergic to all meats and poultry wheat gluten pollen grass you name it! He was only 3 at the time and he end up on a very very mild dose of prednisolone and ate mashed pots, with goats cheese and goats yoghurt and that is it! His coat was so shiny in no time no bald sore patches and he lived a happy life until he was 14. whcih is old for the breed and it was old age in the end that took him from me. I know it is very sad seeing them like this but keep going with the tests and trying different foods and hopefully you'll get there with him:)
I know both dogs and cats on atopica and it seems to work very well. Only down side is the price but I think you can reduce the dose to a maintainence dose after a while.
thanks, you've given me a bit of hope, we have just stopped the atopica and switched to a high dose of anti biotics and daily washes to see if this calms things down whilst we wait for a specialist patch test appointment. he seems alot happier being off atopica, we cant have the patch test done till he's finished this course of a/b, so fingers crossed, hes enjoying all the attention of daily washing and weekly baths little (well not so little) bogger.
