I know I'm going on about progesterone testing and I apologize in advance but I'm feeling dead stressed at the minute and I'm looking for some champdogers reassurance! My champion bitch is on her 16th day of her season and we have been progesterone testing her since day 5 of her season as she missed last time she was mated...her results are as follows:
Sat 23rd Oct (day 5) = 0.88
Wed 27th Oct (day 9) = 0.61
Mon 1st Nov (day 14) = 1.1
The vets said to bring her back on Thurs but I was going to leave it to Sat as I don't feel that she would have jumped up that much and we are doing a lot of milage back and forward. Sat will be her 19th day day of her season. The vet said I should test her tomorrow as they can jump up pretty quick? They also said that when she reaches between 7-9 then to mate her? Reading on some of the posts I feel that this is maybe early? I would appreciate any feedback as I am really stressed at the moment!!

Hi claire i know the feeling im not sleeping very well with all the worry and i have the dog here :-O ,i think my girls progestrone reading are different to yours we took her day 10/11,tues she was 8.9 and should of been retested today but couldnt make it so going tomorrow and ive got a feeling vet will ring to say mate next day ,but my girl isnt flaging or doing much of anything !im worried she not want to mate our boy and now havnt got another lined up(long story)...
only think i can make out is it looks like your girls a later ovulater or her reading could just shoot up very quickly?i have had a girl mate on day 26 before and have a litter of 8 its so hard ,we are traveling 1h away to a vets that does the test and send it off that morning with results that afternoon...i dont want to miss eiather ,she wouldnt mate last time and if she does the same i need to know the right time of ovulation ,sorry not much help im i just wanted you to know your not alone xx

Thanks White lily( don't know your name) nice to know someone else is feeling the stress too lol Its driving me mad and my poor husband too listening to me lol! Yes it seems like she is a late ovulator and this proabaly explains why she missed last time. Yes my girls reading are in ng/l which look lower than the nmol/l readings. xx

so what would yours be in nmol/l ?

Your result on Monday 1st of 1.1 ng/l would convert to 3.49 nmol/l  therefore I would be estimating earliest window for breeding between 4 - 6 days.  (Fri 5th - Sunday 6th) BUT could be longer
Based on this result personally would retest on Thursday as suggested or Friday at latest .
Once levels get to 7 - 9ng/l   (22.26 - 28.62nmol/l) would be working on a mating taking place in  1 -  3days

Thanks K and Jo we were going to leave it to Sat morning to do the next test as we get the results in 2 hrs but I might do a test tomorrow...oh decisions!! Our test is in ng/l Jo x

I was told progesterone levels tend to double every 48 hrs... HTH

let us know how it goes as some of these bitches are so unpredictable and i will be doing the same hopefully in feburary so will be watching with interest

good luck ;) well we didnt take our girl back has she started flagging and standing for him weve tryed over the last 2 days but hes just getting on and off ,licking her and getting back on ,so maybe tomorrow or later they will tie xx

My girl's progesterone test was 31.5 on Mondays blood, got the results Tuesday and straight up for a mating Tuesday night. Hopefully our timing is good as my girl gives little in the way of flagging/flirting.  We only had a short tie of 5 mins which I understand is sufficient anyhow? Yep just the one mating as she was not happy with the dog the day after and Larry from Idexx had said that only one mating was necessary as the timing was spot on.  We tried the 2nd mating because of the short tie, fingers crossed we are ok!

very true if the times right then 1 tie is all thats needed ,looks like the 3 of us then having sleepless nights (fingers crossed) for us all :) whats your girls due day? if my girl goes 5days early like her sister and my other girl i will have a very busy new years day ;)

Do more than one mating.  I was spot on and we missed.  Vet also said to do two matings.

If we go from ovulation date then she is due 2nd Jan!  Perhaps all 3 of us will be up celebrating New Years with puppies!!!  My girl's grandmother went 5 days early but that was from mating, not ovulation so that's probably what makes a bit of difference.  How exciting!!

Reikiangel, did you progesterone test or was it vets in house test?

our idexx came back as 29.8 and one mating on the day...just like your girl, she would not allow second mating.
Fast forward 30 days and we have been scanned +6 babas :)...

It was progesterone test, she's on the other reading.  It was 18.something.  Told to mate two days later then leave a day then mate again.

yes reikiangel im going to do has many has she lets him do ,so will put them together tomorrow and every day till she says no or he dont bother trying :)

She mated on the day the blood was taken (took a whole 2 minutes for them to be tied, 20 minute tie) and she would no longer allow it the next day.
Larry said the next day would have been spot on but should be ok with the mating we had, and we were :).

we had two matings both a good 15 mins..no ties but this is pretty common in my breed. Feeling absolutley wrecked!!! Just have to wait and hope over the next 4 weeks till we get her scanned!
