Topic Dog Boards / General / Italian ligiano dogs?
- By Star [gb] Date 03.11.10 14:58 UTC
I have been sent some info for my breednotes and they listed an italian ligiano dog but when I googled it I could not find it. Anyone heard of it or is it spelt wrong? Thanks

Hound or Gundog? Or perhaps something else.

There is a hound called Segugio Italiano but the is not even close and I am sure there is a gundog with a similar name.

All I know is that they are smoothcoated. I did not think they were big dogs. If I cant get accurate info I will just omit that part of the notes so I dont get my wrist slapped for getting it wrong ;-)

Beginning to think my 'source 'is misinformed as none of these fit what she told me. Most peculiar. Will have to do some more digging to find out what it is!

My source now tells me they are ITALIAN  SUGATILOS . ant find these either????

Think you may be right that its Segugio Italiano. Have emailed her to ask. Thanks

If that is right they are a smooth coated hound smaller than a Pharaoh but similar build and of uncertain temperament and high drive.

Just remembered they do also come in a wire coat and do have an interim standard.

P.S. Just had one entered in our show they are in Import Register.

Sounds like the Segugio, the coat etc. fits.

Gosh! it does not often happen I get it right. Total accident of course as it was only a guess.

Oooh Segugio.
I've not seen one in the flesh but a friend of someone on facebook has one, and was gobsmacked when I guessed correctly from the pics. Really stunning looking dog!

They are lovely looking dogs.  I'm surprised that they've not really taken off in this country.

Not only are they hounds they are difficult hounds, very shy, very sharp and very prey driven not the best choice for a family dog or anyone but a hound expert.

I looked after a Segugio Italiano in quarantine a few years ago and he was gorgeous, very sweet but rather nervous-but of course I never saw him out of his kennel so can't comment on his prey drive etc..

Too be honest I am only going by what I have been told by an owner and it seems the shy nature may be the biggest problem.
