last night took the pug puppy out for her walk about 9.30 and took a spitz along with us we where having a brilliant walk and she was picking up leaves and bouncing about and generally being naughty we walked past some houses and the gardens are all open no fences no gates hedges etc these are peoples front gardens and a public path is infront of the gardens used by children and lots of old people in bungalows live dotted around ,
we passed a garden and i thought that is a big statue in the garden lying down, and within seconds it moved and pinned my baby to the floor, my spitz went for the dog and i grabbed it off my pug who was squealing with fright and i had to twist the collar of the gsd to make it leave, and hoist it off the floor and pull my dogs to the back of me, every time i tried to get my dogs out the way it kept lunging i was screaming for help, i could not put this male gsd down as it was going for my dogs, my pug was cowering behind me, the spitz was standing her ground infront of the pug and beside my leg , so i amtrying to keep her out of harms way, i could not put the gsd down to gather my dogs up,
it seemed like mins that i was battling the gsd and keeping a hold of it to stop it getting at my dogs, then the front door opened of the house that it had come from ran up the path swearing at me to put his so and so dog down, he grabbed the dog and i said to him, it has just attacked my puppy that is totally unaccetable he said your lucky it did not bite you i by this time was screaming at him and he ran into his house and shut the door,
i picked my pug up as it was so dark that i did not know if she was bleeding ran home and checked her over through the tears she is OK, but i am still furious,
went to the police and they will do nothing because it is a dog on dog attack,
the council cannot do anything as they do not have a dog warden to go and have a word with him
i have to go to a solicitor and take civil action if i want anything done about the dog,
just had to get this off my chest so angry but i will never go near that end of the street again with any of my dogs,
i am pleased in a way that i could manouver myself between my little dogs and the gsd, but would dread to think if it had been my akita it decided to have a pop at it just does not bare thinking about

Have a word with your local council Dog Warden.
I know they vary enormously around the country, but if the DW is doing their job properly, they should be able to have a word with the GSD owner, warning him of the implications of having a dog loose & unsupervised in a public place (at the very least!). You might not be the first person to have complained.
Edit: Sorry! just seen you don't have a DW - which seems odd, but there you are! Just as some DWs don't do their job well anyway, seems in places there aren't any to do it either....
Sorry to here this, hope pup is ok. Please keep taking him/her out so that they're not continued to be frieghtened by the experience.
Good luck with the police, maybe threaten them with taking it to higher levels within the police force.

Oh my gosh, what an ordeal :(
I hope you get somewhere with the police, at the very least they could have a word with the owner. That is not on leaving a dog unatended outside and for it to attack your dogs and you to not even get an apology!
> but would dread to think if it had been my akita it decided to have a pop at it just does not bare thinking about
Sods law would have it, that if your Akita had been involved, the police would actually have taken an interest and had you in the firing line :( Good job you never had him with you.
Seems to be the case where responsible owners take the brunt of the law yet the idiots with no respect for anybody are just too much hassle for the police to bother with :(
Hope your dogs are fine after what must have been a very frightening thing for them :(
have come back from the police station and gave them all the things i printed off from defra etc,
and they have said they will deal with it today and i will get a phone call sometime today telling
me what will be done,
i said i hear nothing and i will be back down every day till someone gives me some decent answers to what
will happen, i do not want the dog destroyed just the owner made aware of his responsibilities and
for him to know that he cannot get away with letting his dog be like this
so hopefully something will be done before i hear of a child or dog being hurt
