There's a report in today's Daily Telegraph about a couple, thought to be Swiss, who thought they were having a marriage blessing in the Maldives, but it turns out (the video was shown and translated) that the 'celebrant' was merely a member of the hotel staff who intoned a stream of insults, calling them "swine" and "fornicators" and made reference to bestiality and that their marriage was not valid. The poor couple must feel totally humiliated and the memories of their 'special' day have been ruined.

Just as some tattoos in foreign script have been proved to be offensive and not was was requested, you can never be certain what's being said in a foreign language that you don't speak yourself.

It's strange it is allowed at all. When I got married for the first time, it was at home in Sweden but to an English man, so the ceremony had to be in  English in order to be legal.

Thats awful poor couple. I know what you mean about tattoos when sons girlfriend got his name tattooed in arabic very small I am pleased to say, he wasnt with her at the time and we all were terrified it may have been something else or inappropriate. Fortunately we have since found out it was correct and its quite funny when people who can read arabic comment about it

That poor poor couple, no-one would think that could happen :(

Re Tattoos, Daughter had a tattoo on her upper arm, her name in Japanese.  For ages I teased he that it was probably something from the Chinese takeaway :-D  but then I checked and it is her name, in Woman Script Japanese - so I was really pleased for her :)  (so glad it wasn't 'chicken fried rice' LOL )
