Hi Guys,
we have just had our bitches 2nd progesterone test done and her levels have gone down!! We started testing her on day 5 as she we wanted a good baseline result to start with as she missed last time..her day five reading she was at 0.88. Today 9th day of her season she was 0.61. The vets said it is normal as she is early in her season..anyone else experienced this???

Yes .. when I was testing for an AI we started early and we had a couple of up n down readings until we started to see a significant rise i.e 2.5+ - 3nmol/l. Reading of lower than 2nmol/l are "baseline" readings and no estimate for day of ovulation can be made.

When our bitch was tested 1st time was 2.2 then just 6 days later was 26!  Had a very odd season though - showed no visible signs and no bleeding just knowing my dogs really well made me think she was in season.  Very lucky to have caught her as she had ovulated by second test but caught her we did  - five puppies now 11 days old!

Yes this is normal with a reading as low as 0.8 there was no need to test 4 days later as she is at least 8 or 9 days away

Well she had another test this morning day 14 of her season she is 1.1! Going up very slowly! They said to retest her in 4/5 days which would bring her to sat day 19!! Any thoughts? Thanks again guys

The waiting game is the worst !! One of my girls didn't read the text book either and for her matings wasn't ready until 20 + = Good sized litters with big healthy pups.  First time was sure she was never going to ovulate :)

The waiting is killing me!!! Olus we haveto travel and book the ferry and that as well! We were thinking of retesting her mid week say wed or thurs but the vets said to wait 4-5 days. I can't belive how late she is!!

Don't panic the beauty of progesterone tests is you get an accurate date for ovulation.. you then have another 3 - 4 days to get your mating so plenty of time even for a ferry trip :)  Good luck
